Daniel Irujo Urra
Alejandro María Daniel Irujo Urra (1862-1911) was a Spanish lawyer. In popular discourse he is known as father of Manuel Irujo y Ollo, Manuel Irujo Ollo, a Basque political leader. In scholarly historiographic realm he is acknowledged mostly as defense attorney of Sabino Arana during his trials of 1896 and 1902. Politically Irujo is considered a typical case of an identity located in-between Carlism and emerging Spain's peripheral nationalisms, in this case the Basque nationalism, Basque one. Family and youth Origins of the Irujo family are not clear; some claim they descended from a noble Urra family of Améscoa Baja, Améscoa in Western Navarre. It is certain that in the mid-18th century one branch of the Irujos lived in Tafalla; Daniel's grandfather, Matías Irujo Pascual (1757-1832), apart from having been an Espadrille, alpargatero owned some 9 ha of vineyards and 12 ha of arable land; he was rich enough to build an own house in the city. Estella-Lizarra
Estella (Spanish) or Lizarra (Basque) is a town located in the autonomous community of Navarre, in northern Spain. It lies south west of Pamplona, close to the border with La Rioja and Álava. The town was founded in 1090 when the place, lying by the fortified settlement of Lizarra, was granted a charter by the Pamplonese king Sancho Ramirez. The town became a landmark in the Way of St. James pilgrimage route to Santiago de Compostela, thriving on the privileged location and the melting pot of ''Francos'' called in by Navarrese kings (mainly Occitans from Auvergne and Limousin), Jews and the original Navarrese inhabitants. The wealth resulted in a development of Romanesque architecture, well represented in the town: Church of San Pedro de la Rúa, Palacio de los Reyes de Navarra, Church of San Miguel, among others.
