Daniel Humair
Daniel Humair (born 23 May 1938 in Geneva, Switzerland) is a Swiss drummer, composer, and painter. He is widely renowned and became a Chevalier of the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres in 1986 and Officier in 1992. He has played with many jazz performers notably Phil Woods, Jean-Luc Ponty, Chet Baker, Michel Portal, Martial Solal, Dexter Gordon, Gerry Mulligan, Rahsaan Roland Kirk and Eric Dolphy. Humair is also a talented painter. He describes his own work as "figurative abstract" and has created a coherent œuvre proving his passion and knowledge of artistic painting. Chet Baker
Chesney Henry "Chet" Baker Jr. (December 23, 1929 – May 13, 1988) was an American jazz trumpeter and vocalist. He is known for major innovations in cool jazz that led him to be nicknamed the "Prince of Cool". Baker earned much attention and critical praise through the 1950s, particularly for albums featuring his vocals: ''Chet Baker Sings'' (1954) and '' It Could Happen to You'' (1958). Jazz historian Dave Gelly described the promise of Baker's early career as "James Dean, Sinatra, and Bix, rolled into one". His well-publicized drug habit also drove his notoriety and fame. Claude Nougaro
Claude Nougaro (, oc, Claudi Nogaròu; 9 September 1929 – 4 March 2004) was a French songwriter and singer. Life and career Claude Nougaro was born in Toulouse to a respected French opera singer, Pierre Nougaro, and a piano teacher, Liette Tellini. His maternal grandparents were Italian; his grandfather was born in Livorno, Tuscany and his grandmother in San Damiano d'Asti, Piedmont. He was raised by his grandparents in Toulouse where he heard Glenn Miller, Édith Piaf and Louis Armstrong (among others) on the radio. In 1947 he failed his baccalaureat and began a career in journalism, writing for various journals including ''Le Journal des Curistes'' at Vichy and ''L'Echo d'Alger''. Raymond Guiot
Raymond Guiot (born 5 October 1930) is a French flautist, pianist and composer. He has also trained many flutists throughout the world. Biography Guiot entered the Conservatoire de Roubaix at the age of 7, pushed by a father in love with classical music. In 1947, after two years in Marcel Moyse's class, he won first prize at the Conservatoire de Paris. A few months later, he joined the Opéra de Lille as piccolo under the direction of conductors Fernand Oubradous and Georges Prêtre. There he learned his trade for three consecutive years, playing many operas, operettas and lyrical comedies. He then taught flute at the École nationale de musique de Calais from 1950 to 1956. It was at this time that he prepared - alone - the Geneva competition, of which he won the first prize in 1954. George Gruntz
George Gruntz (24 June 1932 – 10 January 2013) was a Swiss jazz pianist, organist, harpsichordist, keyboardist, and composer known for the George Gruntz Concert Big Band and his work with Phil Woods, Rahsaan Roland Kirk, Don Cherry, Chet Baker, Art Farmer, Dexter Gordon, Johnny Griffin, and Mel Lewis. Gruntz, who was born in Basel, Switzerland, was also an accomplished arranger and composer, having been commissioned by many orchestras and symphonies. European Jazz Ensemble
The European Jazz Ensemble is an ensemble of jazz musicians. History Formed in 1976. The original members comprised the quintet of Alan Skidmore, Leszek Zadlo, Gerd Dudek, Alfred "Ali" Haurand and Pierre Courbois. After 1982 three of the members quit, and Haurand and Dudek were joined by E. L. Petrowsky, Allan Botschinsky, Manfred Schoof, Rob van den Broeck and Anthony Oxley. At the time of the twelfth anniversary tour the members were joined by Enrico Rava, Philip Catherine, Uschi Brüning and Louis Scalvis.
