Daniel Ellis (botanist)
Daniel Ellis FRSE (1771–1841) was an English physician, aerologist, botanist and author. He spent most of his career in Scotland and was an important contributor to Edinburgh’s ''Encyclopædia Britannica'' (6th edition). He was president of the Royal Medical Society in 1806. He appears to have also been a skilful mezzotint artist. Life He was born in Minsterworth in Gloucestershire on 17 October 1771. He studied medicine in London including Anatomy training under Sir Astley Cooper. He received a commission in the Essex Cavalry as an Army Surgeon around 1796 but appears not to have served abroad and saw service only in Ireland and Scotland. The regiment moved to the west of Scotland to deal with an issue with the local militia and from there were sent to Ireland to quell the Irish Rebellion of 1798. The regiment was disbanded on its return to England and Ellis then returned to Scotland in 1801 to study further, partly under Prof James Jeffray. He qualified MD at Glasgow Univ ...

Daniel Ellis (Unionist)
Daniel Ellis (December 30, 1827 – January 6, 1908) was a captain in the Union Army during the American Civil War. Early life and career Ellis was born in Carter County in northeastern Tennessee. With a rudimentary education, Ellis was a farmer and wagonmaker until volunteering for service in the Mexican–American War, serving in Company K, 5th Regular Tennessee Volunteer Infantry. Most of his war service was spent battling the "intestine foe" which would plague him for the rest of his life, ultimately leading to his death. He returned home from Mexico to regain his health and resume his expectedly ordinary life. Ellis married Martha May of Sussex County, Virginia, with whom he had seven children between 1852 and 1866. Civil War The Civil War found East Tennessee strongly divided in its loyalties with many citizens—like Ellis—favoring the Union. Daniel David Ellis (January 6, 1860 – 1927) was a physician and political figure in Saskatchewan. He represented Moosomin in the Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan from 1905 to 1908 as a Provincial Rights Party member. He was born in Wallace, Canada West, the son of Elijah Ellis, a native of Ireland, and was educated there, in Listowel and at the University of Toronto. Daniel Ellis (born June 19, 1980) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey goaltender who is currently a goaltending scout for the Chicago Blackhawks. He played in the National Hockey League for the Dallas Stars, Nashville Predators, Tampa Bay Lightning, Anaheim Ducks, Carolina Hurricanes, and the Florida Panthers. He served as an assistant coach with the Omaha Lancers of the United States Hockey League in 2016-17 before assuming his current role. Daniel Ellis (born 7 October 1988) is an Australian sprint cyclist. He was part of the Australian team that won the team sprint at the 2007 World Cup in Sydney. He is an Australian Institute of Sport scholarship holder. Ellis was selected as a team member representing Australia at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, with Ryan Bayley and Mark French.
