Daniel Dlodlo
Daniel Vuminkosi Dlodlo (born 4 April 1952) is a South African retired judge who served in the Supreme Court of Appeal from 2019 to 2022. A former attorney, he joined the bench as a judge of the High Court's Western Cape Division from August 2004 to May 2019. He was also an acting judge in the Constitutional Court in 2018. Early life and education Dlodlo was born on 4 April 1952 in Nongoma in the former Natal Province. He matriculated at Dlangezwa High School, where he was a prefect, in 1974. Thereafter he attended the University of Zululand, where he was a member of the debating team and the president of the student representative council in 1979. He graduated with a BProc in 1979 and an LLB in 1982. Legal career While studying towards his LLB, Dlodlo began his legal career at the Nqutu Magistrate's Court, first as a court interpreter in 1970 and then as a public prosecutor in 1980. The Supreme Court of Appeal (SCA), formerly known as the Appellate Division, is an appellate court in South Africa. It is located in Bloemfontein, the "judicial capital" of South Africa. History On the creation of the Union of South Africa from four British colonies in 1910, the supreme courts of the colonies became provincial divisions of the new Supreme Court of South Africa, and the Appellate Division was created as a purely appellate court superior to the provincial divisions. It was the seat of some of the country's most outstanding judges including Innes CJ, Watermeyer CJ, Galgut JA, Wessels CJ and Schreiner JA. In 1994 the Constitutional Court of South Africa was created with jurisdiction superior to the Appellate Division, but it could hear only in constitutional matters. Clive Plasket
Clive Michael Plasket (born 3 October 1957) is a South African jurist and retired judge who served in the Supreme Court of Appeal from 2019 to 2022. He was formerly a judge of the Eastern Cape High Court from 2003 to 2019. Before that, he was a practising attorney and a legal academic at Rhodes University, renowned especially as an expert on administrative law. He attended the Christian Brothers College in Springs and matriculated in 1975 at De La Salle College in Johannesburg. Yvonne Thokozile Mbatha (born 19 July 1960) is a South African judge of the Supreme Court of Appeal. Before her appointment to the Supreme Court, she was a judge of the KwaZulu-Natal High Court from June 2011 to June 2019. Labour Appeal Court Of South Africa
The Labour Appeal Court is a South African court that hears appeals from the Labour Court. The court was established by the Labour Relations Act, 1995, and has a status similar to that of the Supreme Court of Appeal. It has its seat in Johannesburg but also hears cases in Cape Town, Port Elizabeth and Durban. Judges of the Labour Court, who must be High Court judges, are appointed by the President, acting on the advice of the Judicial Service Commission and the National Economic Development and Labour Council. The Judge President (JP) and a Deputy Judge President (DJP) of the Labour Court also serve as JP and DJP of the Labour Appeal Court and there are eight other judges on the court. Each case before the court is heard by a panel of three judges. The title of Senior Counsel or State Counsel (post-nominal letters: SC) is given to a senior lawyer in some countries that were formerly part of the British Empire. "Senior Counsel" is used in current or former Commonwealth countries or jurisdictions that have chosen to change the title "King's Counsel" to a name without monarchical connotations, usually related to the British monarch that is no longer head of state, such that reference to the King is no longer appropriate.
