Daniel Davies (Australian Politician)
Daniel Merddyn Scott Davies (1 March 1872 – 1 October 1951) was an Australian politician who represented the South Australian House of Assembly seat of Yorke Peninsula from 1933 to 1941 as an independent. Davies was a postal employee at Mount Gambier for seven years, before being transferred as assistant postmaster at Glenelg in 1899, and then again transferred as postmaster at Minlaton in 1908, where he remained for the rest of his life. He initially continued as postmaster, but later become an auctioneer and agent, working as an agent until his death. He was a long-serving Justice of the Peace, had been Assistant Returning Officer for Yorke Peninsula for 21 years prior to standing for parliament and was secretary, and later long-serving auditor, of the Minlaton Institute. He was also secretary of the Minlaton Show and Minlaton Literary Society, was a founder of the Minlaton Dramatic Club, and was the Minlaton representative of the ''Yorketown Pioneer''. Daniel Davies (7 November 1863 - 23 August 1928) was the Anglican Bishop of Bangor from 1925 until his death. Davies was educated at St John's College, Cambridge. He held curacies at Conway and Bangor before becoming Vicar Choral of St Asaph Cathedral and then the incumbent at Brymbo. Daniel Davies is a British-American composer, musician and songwriter. He is best known for his contributions to horror director John Carpenter's ''Lost Themes'' and '' Lost Themes II'' albums, and for his work with rock bands Year Long Disaster, Karma to Burn, and CKY. Davies is the son of guitarist Dave Davies of The Kinks, and the godson of John Carpenter. Early life Davies was born in London, England to The Kinks guitar player Dave Davies and his wife Nancy. His first nine years were in part spent on the road touring with his father. Davies moved to Los Angeles, California with his parents at the age of 11. The Rev. Daniel Davies, D. D. (15 November 1797 – 19 February 1876) was a Welsh Baptist preacher, also known as "Y Dyn Dall" (The Blind Man). Early life and education Davies was born at Moelfre, Llanfair-ar-y-bryn, Carmarthenshire. His father was Joshua Davies. He was living in Dowlais, Merthyr Tydfil as a boy when he became blind after surviving smallpox.William Cathcart, ed.''The Baptist Encyclopedia''(L. H. Everts 1883): 309–310. In 1815 he was admitted as a student at the Royal School for the Blind, Liverpool, where he not only learned manual skills such as basketry and weaving, but also learned to speak English. Daniel John Davies (2 September 1885 – 4 June 1970) was a Welsh Independent (Congregationalist) minister and Welsh language poet. He published under the name 'D.J. Davies' and was also well known as 'Davies Capel Als'. He was born in Waenfelen, a cottage in Pentre Galar near Crymych, in the Preseli Hills of North Pembrokeshire, the third son of John Morris Davies and his wife Ann. After his parents and his two brothers died while he was a child, he moved to Llanfyrnach to live with his mother's sister. He attended Glandŵr Independent chapel, Llanfyrnach, where, influenced by the minister, O. R. Owen, he began preaching himself on Whit Sunday 1906. He graduated in Hebrew from University College, Cardiff in 1913, then studied Theology at the Memorial College, Brecon. In 1916 he was ordained to the ministry at Capel Als, Llanelli. Sir Daniel Thomas Davies KCVO (November 1899 – 19 May 1966) was a Welsh physician. His parents lived in the Garw Valley area, and he attended Bridgend Grammar School. He later studied at University College Cardiff. In 1927 he was appointed pathologist of Middlesex Hospital, London, before, in 1930, joining the clinical staff at the Royal Free Hospital. He also worked at the Hospital of St John and St Elizabeth, St John's Wood from 1930 to 1965. Daniel Oliver Davies (15 October 1920 – 2 March 1977), also known as Dan Davies, was a British general practitioner who co-founded a health centre in Whitstable, established a general practitioner course in Canterbury, was secretary of the East Kent Division of the British Medical Association and served with the Zambia Flying Doctor Service. In 1945, while studying medicine at Guy's Hospital, he assisted at Bergen-Belsen concentration camp as a voluntary medical student.
