Dandelion Records
Dandelion Records was a British record label started on 18 July 1969 by the British DJ John Peel. History The label was started as a way to get the music Peel liked onto record. Peel was responsible for "artistic direction" and the commercial side was handled by Clive Selwood of Elektra Records and his wife Shirley. Peel wrote: Dandelion and the sister publishing company Biscuit were named after Peel's hamsters at the suggestion of his then flatmate Marc Bolan. Around twenty eight albums were released by the label. One album was by Gene Vincent, with a cast of musicians including members of The Byrds and Steppenwolf. Others were by younger or non-commercial artists, including Beau, Bridget St John, Medicine Head, Clifford T. Ward, David Bedford, Lol Coxhill, Stack Waddy, Tractor, Kevin Coyne/Siren, and Denmark's Burnin' Red Ivanhoe. The only record ever to make the UK Singles Chart was " (And The) Pictures in the Sky" by Medicine Head, which reached #22 in 1971. Beau's "1 ... ''Taraxacum'' () is a large genus of flowering plants in the family Asteraceae, which consists of species commonly known as dandelions. The scientific and hobby study of the genus is known as taraxacology. The genus is native to Eurasia and North America, but the two most commonplace species worldwide, '' T. officinale'' (the common dandelion) and '' T. erythrospermum'' (the red-seeded dandelion), were introduced from Europe into North America, where they now propagate as wildflowers. Both species are edible in their entirety. The common name ''dandelion'' ( , from French , meaning 'lion's tooth') is also given to specific members of the genus. Kevin Coyne
Kevin Coyne (27 January 1944 – 2 December 2004) was an English musician, singer, composer, film-maker, and a writer of lyrics, stories and poems. The "anti-star" was born in Derby, Derbyshire, England, and died in his adopted home of Nuremberg, Bavaria, Germany. Coyne is notable for his unorthodox style of blues-influenced guitar composition, the intense quality of his vocal delivery, and his bold treatment, in his lyrics, of injustice to the mental illness, mentally ill. Many influential musicians have described themselves as Coyne fans, among them Sting (musician), Sting and John Lydon. In the mid-1970s, prior to the formation of the Police, Coyne's band included guitarist Andy Summers. Prominent BBC disc jockey and world music authority Andy Kershaw described Coyne as "a national treasure who keeps getting better" and as one of the great British blues voices. ''Stack Waddy'' is the first album by Stack Waddy, released in 1971 on Dandelion Records. Critical reception Music website Allmusic gave Stack Waddy four out of five stars. Reviewer Dave Thompson highlights this work as one of the "''must hear''" rock albums of the early 1970s; pointing out the brutal and uncompromising interpretations on many songs as one of the most striking features of the album. He ends his comment by saying that: "''...this is one of those few albums that genuinely requires you to wear protective clothing''". Mike Hart (poet)
Michael William Hart (3 December 1943 – 22 June 2016) was an English singer-songwriter and poet. In 1962, he founded the band The Roadrunners, before leaving in 1965 to join The Liverpool Scene, a poetry and music collective, with Adrian Henri, Andy Roberts, and Mike Evans. After recording one album with them he had a solo album, ''Mike Hart Bleeds'', produced by John Peel, on Peel's Dandelion Records label. He recorded a second solo album with Dandelion; ''Basher, Chalky, Pongo and Me''. In 1980 he began work on a third solo project. Five tracks were recorded, but none were released. They have been rediscovered, remastered, and put online. He died on 22 June 2016 at the age of 72. '' |

Cherry Red Records is a British independent record label founded in Malvern, Worcestershire by Iain McNay in 1978. The label has released recordings by Dead Kennedys, Everything But the Girl, The Monochrome Set, and Felt, among others, as well as the compilation album ''Pillows & Prayers''. In addition to releasing new music, Cherry Red also acts as an umbrella for individual imprints and catalogue specialists. Cherry Red was listed by ''Music Week'' as one of the UK's top ten record companies in Q1 2015 for sales of artist albums. ''Record Collector'' is a British monthly music magazine. It was founded in 1980 and distributes worldwide. History The early years The first standalone issue of ''Record Collector'' was published in March 1980, though its history stretches back further. In 1963, publisher Sean O'Mahony (alias Johnny Dean) had launched an official Beatles magazine, ''The Beatles Book''. Although it shut down in 1969, ''The Beatles Book'' reappeared in 1976 due to popular demand. Through the late-1970s, the small ads section of ''The Beatles Book'' became an increasingly popular avenue through which collectors could make contact and buy, sell, or trade Beatles records.
