''Dancing on Ice'' is a British made dance competition television series franchise produced around the world. The format, devised by London Weekend Television and Granada Television for ITV, has been a prime-time hit in eight countries, including Britain and subsequently in Italy and Chile. In Australia, where it was titled ''Torvill and Dean's Dancing on Ice'', it was axed after just one series owing to production costs. International versions There have been a total of 51 winners of ''Dancing on Ice'' around the world. London Weekend Television
London Weekend Television (LWT) (now part of the non-franchised ITV London region) was the ITV network franchise holder for Greater London and the Home Counties at weekends, broadcasting from Fridays at 5.15 pm (7:00 pm from 1968 until 1982) to Monday mornings at 6:00. From 1968 until 1992, when LWT's weekday counterpart was Thames Television, there was an on-screen handover to LWT on Friday nights (there was no handover back to Thames on Mondays, as from 1968 to 1982 there was no programming in the very early morning, and from 1983, when a national breakfast franchise was created, LWT would hand over to TV-am at 6:00am, which would then hand over to Thames at 9:25am). Karen Barber
Karen Barber (born 21 June 1961 in Manchester) is a British ice dancer. She is the 1983 European bronze medalist and competed at two Olympics with partner Nicky Slater. Skating career Barber won the silver medal at the 1977 World Junior Championships with partner Kim Spreyer. When that partnership ended, she teamed up with Nicky Slater. They won the bronze medal at the 1983 European Championships. They represented Great Britain at the 1980 Winter Olympics, placing 12th, and at the 1984 Winter Olympics, where they placed 6th. Following her retirement from competitive skating, Barber worked as a coach and skated professionally. Laura Anneli Lepistö (born 25 April 1988) is a Finnish former competitive figure skater. She is the 2010 world bronze medalist, the 2009 European champion, and a two-time (2008 and 2010) Finnish national champion.
