"Dancing in Berlin" is a song by American band Berlin, which was released in 1984 as the third single from their third studio album '' Love Life''. It was written by John Crawford and produced by Giorgio Moroder and Richie Zito. It reached No. 12 in New Zealand and No. 39 in Australia. Critical reception Upon release, ''Billboard'' included the song as a recommended single under the "Pop" section. ''The Absolute Sound'' described the song as one of the best from ''Love Life''. In a retrospective review of the album, Mike DeGagne of AllMusic commented that the song "emulates the same streamline formula of sharp keyboards and an animated dance pace" of "No More Words". Berlin is an American new wave band formed in Los Angeles in 1978. The band gained commercial success in the 1980s with singles including " The Metro", " Sex (I'm A...)", "No More Words" and the chart-topping "Take My Breath Away" from the 1986 film ''Top Gun'', which won the Academy Award for Best Original Song and a Golden Globe Award for Best Original Song. Michael John Gilmour Howlett (born 27 April 1950) is a record producer and teacher based in the United Kingdom and Australia. Career In the late 1960s, Howlett was the bassist in Sydney pop band the Affair, which included vocalist Kerrie Biddell. The group travelled to England after winning a prize in the Hoadley's Battle of the Sounds band competition. Howlett settled in London and in 1973 joined renowned British progressive rock group Gong, which had been founded by an Australian expatriate, Daevid Allen. He remained with Gong until 1977, recording several albums with them and co-writing much of their material later in this period with drummer Pierre Moerlen. After leaving Gong, Howlett formed the short-lived band Strontium 90, which consisted of himself, Sting, Stewart Copeland and Andy Summers. ''Love Life'' is the third studio album by American new wave band Berlin. It was released on March 12, 1984, by Geffen Records. Recorded between October and December 1983, the album features production from Mike Howlett, Giorgio Moroder, and Richie Zito. Four singles were released from the album, including "No More Words", which became the band's first top-40 single on the US ''Billboard'' Hot 100, peaking at number 23. Later, second single "Now It's My Turn" peaked at #74. The album itself became the band's highest-charting album on the ''Billboard'' 200, peaking at number 23. History ''The Absolute Sound'' was founded in 1973 by Harry Pearson, who was its editor-in-chief and publisher.
