Dancenoise
Dancenoise is an American performance art duo created by Anne Iobst and Lucy Sexton. Dancenoise entered the New York and Washington, D.C., art and club scene in 1983, performing at venues such as WOW Café, the Pyramid, 8BC, Performance Space 122, Franklin Furnace, The Kitchen, La Mama, Danspace Project, and King Tut’s Wah Wah Hut. Their work has also been presented around Europe as well as at the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts. Dancenoise has also collaborated with other artists including Charles Atlas, Mike Taylor, Ishmael Houston-Jones, and Yvonne Meier. In addition to their work under the title ''Dancenoise'', Iobst and Sexton, along with Jo Andres and Mimi Goese, were frequent collaborators with Tom Murrin, an East Village performance artist known for his monthly celebrations in honor of the full moon. King Tut’s Wah Wah Hut (New York)
King Tut's Wah Wah Hut was a club and experimental theater space in the East Village of New York City, operating in the mid-1980s and 1990s at 112 Avenue A at 7th Street. The club was "Egyptian themed". Among the acts presented at the club were Dancenoise (which curated a regular performance series there), Carmelita Tropicana and Blue Man Group. In July 2015, the Whitney Museum of American Art commissioned one of the original designers of the club, Tom Berry, to create a temporary King Tut's Wah Wah Hut in its lobby for use as a theater in connection with its retrospective of the work of Dancenoise. Lucy Sexton
Lucy Sexton is a performer, director and choreographer who performs as Factress and is one half of Dancenoise. She is a Bessie Award winner, and later served as the organization's executive director before stepping down in 2020. As of 2014, she was associate artistic director at the World Trade Center Performing Arts Center. As of 2020, she's Executive Director of New Yorkers For Culture and the Arts under which she co-leads the Culture at 3 calls. Ishmael Houston-Jones
Ishmael Houston-Jones (born 1951) is a choreographer, author, performer, teacher, curator, and arts advocate known for his improvisational dance and language work. His work has been performed in New York City, across the United States, in Europe, Canada, Australia and Latin America. Houston-Jones and Fred Holland shared a 1984 New York Dance and Performance Bessie Award for their work ''Cowboys, Dreams and Ladders'' performed at The Kitchen and he shared another Bessie Award in 2011 with writer Dennis Cooper and composer Chris Cochrane for the 2010 revival of their 1985 collaboration, ''THEM''. The Whitney Museum of American Art, known informally as "The Whitney", is an art museum in the Meatpacking District and West Village neighborhoods of Manhattan in New York City. Mimi Goese (last name rhymes with ''hazy'') is an American professional musician. Career Goese was the vocalist for dream pop band Hugo Largo. Solo Under the mononym "Mimi", she released a solo album, ''Soak'', on the Luaka Bop label, with contributions from French record producer Hector Zazou and some tracks produced by former Hugo Largo bandmate Hahn Rowe. Mary Jo Andres Buscemi (May 21, 1954 – January 6, 2019) was an American filmmaker, choreographer and artist. Early life and career Andres was born in Wichita, Kansas, on May 21, 1954. She first became known on the kinetic downtown New York performance scene of the 1980s for her film/dance/light performances, shown at the Performing Garage, La Mama Experimental Theater Club P.S. 122, St. Marks Danspace, and the Collective for Living Cinema. As a filmmaker, Andres drew acclaim and awards for the 1996 film ''Black Kites'' which aired on PBS and played several film festivals, including Sundance, Berlin, Toronto, London and Human Rights Watch Film Festivals.
