Abstrupus Danby
Sir Abstrupus Danby (27 December 1655 – 27 December 1727) was an English wool merchant and country gentleman. He was the son of Christopher Danby and Anne Culpepper, niece of Lord Colepeper. He was knighted at Kensington in 1691, and was also a justice of the peace and deputy lieutenant for Yorkshire. In 1695, upon the death of his father, he built himself a new house at Swinton Park The Swinton Estate is a large privately owned estate in North Yorkshire, England. Sir Christopher Danby Member of parliament, MP Justice of the peace, JP (1503 – 14 June 1571), of Farnley Hall, West Yorkshire, Farnley, Masham, and Thorp Perrow, Yorkshire, of St Paul's Cray, St. Paul's Cray, Kent, and of Kettleby, Lincolnshire, Kettleby, Lincolnshire, and of Nayland, Suffolk, was an English politician. Life He was born to Sir Christopher Danby and Margaret ( Scrope), daughter and coheiress of Thomas Scrope, 5th Baron Scrope of Masham. He succeeded to his father's estates in 1518, and on the death of his mother, inherited the manor of Masham. He was knighted in 1533 at the coronation of Queen Anne Boleyn (second wife of Henry VIII of England, King Henry VIII). Francis Danby
Francis Danby (16 November 1793 – 9 February 1861) was an Irish painter of the Romantic era. His imaginative, dramatic landscapes were comparable to those of John Martin. Danby initially developed his imaginative style while he was the central figure in a group of artists who have come to be known as the Bristol School. His period of greatest success was in London in the 1820s. Early life Born in the south-east of Ireland, he was one of a set of twins; his father, James Danby, farmed a small property he owned near Wexford, but his death, in 1807, caused the family to move to Dublin, while Francis was still a schoolboy. He began to practice drawing at the Royal Dublin Society's schools; and under an erratic young artist named James Arthur O'Connor he began painting landscapes. Gordon Danby
Gordon Thompson Danby (November 8, 1929 – August 2, 2016) was a Canadian-American physicist notable (together with Dr. James R. Powell) for his work on superconducting Maglev, for which he shared the Franklin Institute 'Medal 2000 for Engineering'. Danby was born in Richmond, Ontario (now part of Ottawa) and went to Carleton University to study mathematics and physics before going to McGill University in Montreal, where he received a PhD in 1956. He started working at Brookhaven National Laboratory on Long Island, New York the following year and remained there until 1999. Graeme Danby (born 23 May 1962 in Consett, County Durham, England) is an operatic bass who has performed at several of the world's leading opera houses, notably the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden and the English National Opera. Herbert Danby
Herbert Danby (20 January 1889 – 29 March 1953) was an Anglican priest and writer who played a central role in the change of attitudes toward Judaism in the first half of the twentieth century. Education Danby was educated at Church Middle Class School, Leeds and Keble College, Oxford. He was a Holroyd Musical Scholar, and became a Fellow of the Royal College of Organists in 1907. He retained a lifelong passionate interest in music, and also in golf. Danby had a distinguished career at Oxford, winning the Junior Septuagint Prize, the Pusey and Ellerton Scholarship, the Houghton Syriac Prize and a Senior Kennicott Scholarship. He achieved a first class degree in Oriental Languages, and was awarded an MA in 1914. James Francis Danby was an English landscape art, landscape painter who excelled in depicting sunrise and sunset. Biography Danby was born at Bristol in 1816, the son of Francis Danby, Royal Academy, A.R.A. His works appeared at the Royal Academy, and at the Royal Society of British Artists, Society of British Artists, of which latter he was a member. Michael David Danby (born 16 February 1955) is an Australian politician who was an Australian Labor Party member of the Australian House of Representatives from 1998 until 2019, representing the Division of Melbourne Ports, Victoria. Nicholas Danby (19 July 1935 – 15 June 1997) was a British organist, recitalist and teacher. He was a great-great-grandson of Charles Dickens and nephew of Monica Dickens. Danby was Organ Professor at both the Royal College of Music and the Royal Academy of Music in London, where he was head of Organ Studies from 1989 to 1996. For over thirty years he was Director of Music at the London Jesuit Church of the Immaculate Conception, Farm Street, Mayfair. Throughout his life, Nicholas Danby worked ceaselessly to promote international and cultural exchange. Danby did secondary studies at Beaumont College, Old Windsor.
