Dana Oldfather (born November 30, 1978) is an American oil painter and dinnerware designer often linked to Cleveland's artistic resurgence. Life and career Dana was born in Cleveland, OH. She is a self-taught artist but has listed Willem de Kooning and Yoshitomo Nara as influences. Dana's work has been shown in galleries and museums across the United States, including POV Evolving Gallery in Los Angeles, CA, and The Bonfoey Gallery in Cleveland, OH. Oil Painter
Oil painting is the process of painting with pigments with a medium of drying oil as the binder. It has been the most common technique for artistic painting on wood panel or canvas for several centuries, spreading from Europe to the rest of the world. The advantages of oil for painting images include "greater flexibility, richer and denser colour, the use of layers, and a wider range from light to dark". But the process is slower, especially when one layer of paint needs to be allowed to dry before another is applied. Willem De Kooning
Willem de Kooning (; ; April 24, 1904 – March 19, 1997) was a Dutch-American abstract expressionist artist. He was born in Rotterdam and moved to the United States in 1926, becoming an American citizen in 1962. In 1943, he married painter Elaine Fried. Yoshitomo Nara
is a Japanese artist. He lives and works in Nasushiobara, Tochigi Prefecture, though his artwork has been exhibited worldwide. Nara has had nearly 40 solo exhibitions since 1984. His art work has been housed at the MoMA and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA). His most well-known and repeated subjects are "big-headed girls" with piercing eyes, who one Nara scholar describes as having "childlike expressions hatresonate with adult emotions, heirembodiment of kawaii (cuteness) carries a dark humor, and any explicit cultural references are intertwined with personal memories." Ink Dish is an American tableware design company located in San Diego, California. The company uses designs by contemporary underground artists for their line of porcelain dinnerware. Ink Dish was founded in 2008 by David Harding and Caroline Pople. Julie Pople, mother of Caroline, is the lead designer for Ink Dish. Julie graduated from Liverpool Art College (John Moores University) in 1971 with a degree in Textile Design. Julie was an in-house ceramic designer for Royal Stafford, Burslem, Stoke-on-Trent until becoming the head of design for the European arm of the ceramic company PT Sango.
