Dan Daniel (June 6, 1890 – July 1, 1981), born Daniel Margowitz, was an American sportswriter whose contributions over a long period led him to be called "the dean of American baseball writers". Early life Daniel was born in Springfield, Massachusetts. His family moved to New York City when he was a boy, and he remained there throughout his career. He attended the City College of New York, where he managed the basketball team. Daniel received his first writing assignment with the ''New York Herald'' in 1909 at the age of 19. He decided to use a single-name byline, "By Daniel", because editors in the early 20th century were concerned that anti-Semitism would hurt newspaper sales if he used his Jewish surname. 1920s By 1924, Daniel had settled at the ''New York Telegram'', where he remained for the next forty years. Dan Daniel (born Wilbur Clarence Daniel; May 12, 1914 – January 23, 1988) was a Member of the United States House of Representatives, U.S. House of Representatives from Virginia, serving from 1969 until his death from a heart attack in Charlottesville, Virginia, Charlottesville in 1988. Vergil Glynn "Dan" Daniel (December 18, 1934 – June 21, 2016) was an American radio disc jockey, known on the air as Dandy Dan Daniel and Triple-D. Career Daniel started as a disc jockey at age seventeen on Armed Forces Radio with the US Navy. His first commercial job was at KXYZ in Houston in 1955 and he then worked at WDGY in Minneapolis before moving to WMCA in 1961. His first broadcast at WMCA was on August 18, 1961. He started on the graveyard shift overnight but from 1962 to 1968 he played the top 40 hits from 4 pm to 7 pm — the evening drive home slot. The station produced a survey of the current sales in New York record stores and Dandy Dan gave the countdown of the week's best sellers every Wednesday in this late afternoon slot. Donna Lubertha Hightower (December 28, 1926 – August 19, 2013) was an American R&B, soul and jazz singer and songwriter, who recorded and released albums for the Decca and Capitol labels. Later in her career she was based in Europe, where she had a hit in 1972 with "This World Today is a Mess." Biography Donna Hightower was born in Caruthersville, Missouri, to a family of sharecroppers. She listened to singers such as Ella Fitzgerald, but never planned to have a singing career and by the age of 23 had been married, had two children, and divorced.
