Alex Dampier
Alex "Damps" Dampier (born ) is a Canadian retired professional ice hockey player and coach. He is a member of the British Ice Hockey Hall of Fame. Playing career Born in Nipigon, Ontario, Dampier combined playing ice hockey with a degree course in Physical Education at Lakehead University. He played for the Cape Cod Cubs in the Eastern Hockey League during the 1972–73 season before joining the Muskegon Mohawks in the International Hockey League the season after. Dampier moved to the United Kingdom in 1978 and joined the Murrayfield Racers as a defender. He became the Racers' player-coach the following season and then only played intermittently for them from the beginning of the 1983–84 season until he retired from playing in 1985. John Dampier (1750 – 18 August 1826) was an English amateur cricketer in the late 18th century. His place of birth is unknown but he was educated at Eton College. He died in Ely, Cambridgeshire when he was either 75 or 76 years old. Louis Dampier (born November 20, 1944) is an American retired professional basketball player. A 6-foot-tall guard, Dampier is one of only a handful of men to play all nine seasons in the American Basketball Association (ABA) (1967–1976), all with the Kentucky Colonels. He also was one of just two players to play all nine ABA seasons with the same team; the other was Byron Beck of the Denver Rockets, later renamed the Nuggets. After the ABA–NBA merger in 1976 Dampier also played three seasons (1976–1979) in the National Basketball Association (NBA) with the San Antonio Spurs. Robert Dampier (1799–1874) was a British artist and clergyman. Life Dampier was born in 1799 in the village of Codford St Peter in Wiltshire, England. He was baptised on 20 December 1799. He was one of 13 children of Codford St Peter's rector Reverend John Dampier (1763–1839) and his wife Jane. In 1819, he went to Rio de Janeiro in Brazil as a clerk. In 1825, he was picked up in Rio to be the expedition artist on the English ship , under the command of George Byron, 7th Baron Byron, Captain George Anson Byron. The ship was returning the bodies of King Kamehameha II and Queen Kamāmalu to the Kingdom of Hawaii, Hawaiian Islands (known by the British as "Sandwich Islands"). Thomas Dampier (1748 – 13 May 1812) served as Bishop of Rochester and Bishop of Ely. Life He was eldest son of Dr Thomas Dampier, who was lower master at Eton College and from 1774 Dean of Durham. He was educated at Eton College, and in 1766 elected to King's College, Cambridge. He graduated B.A. 1771, M.A. 1774, D.D. 1780. After taking his degree he resided for some time at Eton as private tutor to the Earl of Guilford, holding at the same time the vicarage of Bexley in Kent, while a few years later he succeeded to the mastership of Sherburn Hospital, which his father obtained leave to resign in his favour.
