Damone Johnson
Damone Johnson (born March 2, 1962) is a former professional American football tight end in the National Football League (NFL). He played seven seasons for the Los Angeles Rams. Early life Johnson graduated from Santa Monica High School and played collegiately at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, where he played four seasons and finished with 109 receptions for 1,632 yards and 10 touchdowns. He earned All- Western Football Conference selection in 1983. After his Cal Poly career in 1984, Johnson ranked second in school history for both receptions and receiving yards. Professional career After being drafted by the Los Angeles Rams in the sixth round of the 1985 NFL Draft, Johnson spent his rookie season on injured reserve due to a knee injury suffered in training camp. Tight End
The tight end (TE) is a position in American football, arena football, and Canadian football, on the offense. The tight end is often a hybrid position with the characteristics and roles of both an offensive lineman and a wide receiver. Like offensive linemen, they are usually lined up on the offensive line and are large enough to be effective blockers. On the other hand, unlike offensive linemen, they are eligible receivers adept enough to warrant a defense's attention when running pass patterns. Because of the hybrid nature of the position, the tight end's role in any given offense depends on the tactical preferences and philosophy of the head coach as well as overall team dynamic. Western Football Conference (United States)
The Western Football Conference was an NCAA Division II scholarship-awarding football conference that existed from 1982 to 1993. 1988 San Francisco 49ers Season
The 1988 season was the San Francisco 49ers' 39th in the National Football League (NFL), their 43rd overall, and their tenth and final season under head coach Bill Walsh. The season was highlighted by their third Super Bowl victory. They failed to improve on their 13–2 record from 1987, and the 49ers struggled to a 6–5 record at the midway point and were in danger of missing the playoffs for the first time since 1982, but rose to defeat the Washington Redskins on a Monday night, eventually finishing the season at 10–6. They gained a measure of revenge by thrashing the Minnesota Vikings 34–9 in the first round of the playoffs; the Vikings had upset the #1-seeded 49ers the previous season in the divisional round. The 1985 NFL draft was the procedure by which National Football League teams selected amateur college football players. The draft was held April 30 and May 1, 1985, at the Omni Park Central Hotel in New York City, New York.
