Damian Warner
Damian David George Warner (born November 4, 1989) is a Canadian track and field athlete specializing in decathlon. He is the 2020 Olympic champion and a three-time World medallist (silver in 2015, bronze in 2013 and 2019). Warner also won the bronze medal at the 2016 Summer Olympics and was the 2014 Commonwealth champion and the two-time and reigning Pan American champion from the 2015 and 2019 Games. Warner holds the Pan Am Games record and the Canadian record for the decathlon, and the fourth-highest decathlon score in history. Competing in the heptathlon, he is the 2022 World Indoor champion. Notable for his sprinting, Warner holds decathlon bests in the 100 m and 110 m hurdles, running a 10.12 and 13.27 respectively. He formerly held the decathlon best in the long jump (8.28 m) as well. Decathlon
The decathlon is a combined event in athletics consisting of ten track and field events. The word "decathlon" was formed, in analogy to the word "pentathlon", from Greek δέκα (''déka'', meaning "ten") and ἄθλος (''áthlos'', or ἄθλον, ''áthlon'', meaning "contest" or “prize”). Events are held over two consecutive days and the winners are determined by the combined performance in all. Performance is judged on a points system in each event, not by the position achieved. The decathlon is contested mainly by male athletes, while female athletes typically compete in the heptathlon. Traditionally, the title of " World's Greatest Athlete" has been given to the person who wins the decathlon. This began when Gustav V of Sweden told Jim Thorpe, "Sir, you are the world's greatest athlete" after Thorpe won the decathlon at the Stockholm Olympics in 1912. The Pan American Games (also known colloquially as the Pan Am Games) is a continental multi-sport event in the Americas featuring summer sports, in which thousands of athletes participate in a variety of competitions. Australian Jake Stein effectively took himself out of the competition before completing the first event by false starting twice in the 100 metres. However he persevered through the other nine events and while officially finishing in last place, he put in a performance worthy of the top 5. The Commonwealth Games, often referred to as the Friendly Games or simply the Comm Games, are a quadrennial international multi-sport event among athletes from the Commonwealth of Nations. The event was first held in 1930, and, with the exception of 1942 and 1946 (cancelled due to World War II), have successively run every four years since. The men's heptathlon at the 2018 IAAF World Indoor Championships took place on 2 and 3 March 2018. Summary With the retirement of defending champion Ashton Eaton, the multi event world opened up. 2016 Olympic silver medalist Kévin Mayer assumed the top spot winning the 2017 World Championships. His pursuers included Olympic bronze medalist Damian Warner and world championship bronze medalist Kai Kazmirek. In the 60 metres, Warner ran the top time of 6.74, his personal best, but Mayer was only .11 behind, also running his personal best, putting Warner 41 points ahead. In the long jump, Kazmirek boomed a personal best to offset one of the poorer 60 metre times to move into a tight group fighting for third place.
