Damian Matacz
Damian Richard Matacz (born 28 February 1979) is an Australian former professional basketball player who is most well known for his 18 seasons with the Joondalup Wolves in the State Basketball League (SBL). A former college player for Northern Michigan University, Matacz also had two short stints in the National Basketball League (NBL) and played in New Zealand, Ireland, Germany and Switzerland. He holds an Irish passport, and in 2008, he represented the Irish national team. Early life Matacz was born and raised in Perth, Western Australia, and moved to the United States in the mid-1990s to attend Greenville High School in Greenville, Michigan. At Greenville, he earned all-conference honours with the basketball team in 1997. College career In 1998, Matacz enrolled at Northern Michigan University and joined the Wildcats men's basketball program. State Basketball League All-Star Five ...
The All-NBL1 West First Team is an annual NBL1 West honour bestowed on the best players in the league each year. Under the State Basketball League (SBL) brand, a five-player team was named every year between 2005 and 2019. Alternating between the terms "All Stars", "All Star Teams" and "All-Star Five" until 2017, in 2018 and 2019 "All-SBL First Team" was used. In 2021, an All-NBL1 West First Team was named following the league's rebranding. Canberra Cannons
The Canberra Cannons are a defunct basketball team that competed in Australia's National Basketball League (NBL). They went into financial administration in 2003 and were relocated to Newcastle, where they became the Hunter Pirates. After this venture also folded the team was relocated to Singapore and played as the Singapore Slingers for the 2006/07 season. The Cannons have always been considered as the team of the 1980s. They were runner-up in the inaugural 1979 competition. The Cannons won three championships (1983, 1984 and 1988) and was runner-up once more in 1989, losing to the North Melbourne Giants. Wollongong Hawks
The Illawarra Hawks (formerly the Wollongong Hawks and The Hawks) is an Australian professional basketball team based in Wollongong, New South Wales. NBL1 West, formerly the State Basketball League (SBL), is a semi-professional basketball league in Western Australia, comprising both a men's and women's competition.
