Damian Casey
Damian Casey (1993 – 17 June 2022) was an Irish hurler who played for the Eoghan Ruadh, Dungannon, club and at senior level for the Tyrone county team. Regarded as his county's greatest ever hurler who—at the time of his death—was "at the peak of his powers", Casey played as a full-forward. He scored in every game he played for Tyrone at senior level. He was a former captain of his county, including for its first Nicky Rackard Cup win in 2014, when he was 21 years of age. He won the Nicky Rackard Cup again in 2022 in what was his final game for his county, shortly before his death at the age of 29. Early life Casey played hurling since he was "four or five". Eoghan Ruadh, Dungannon GAA
Eoghan Ruadh, Dungannon GAA is a Gaelic Athletic Association club located in Dungannon, County Tyrone, Northern Ireland. The club is solely concerned with the game of hurling. History The Eoghan Ruadh club was founded in Dungannon in 1944. Since then, the club has won several titles in the Tyrone Senior Hurling Championship, and lies second only to Eire Óg Carrickmore on the all-time roll of honour with 24 titles. For most of that time the club had no permanent base and played their matches at O'Neill Park, the home of Dungannon Thomas Clarkes GAC, Dungannon Clarke's GFC, and other neighbouring grounds. In 2015, the club opened their own complex at Donaghmore Road. Further improvements to the club's facilities were undertaken in subsequent years. 2012 National Hurling League
The 2012 National Hurling League commenced in February 2012. 34 GAA county hurling teams: 32 from Ireland (including Fingal but not Cavan), London and Warwickshire, contested it. On 6 May Kilkenny defeated Cork in the final to win their 15th NHL title, moving them to second place in the all-time roll of honour, behind Tipperary who have won 19 Leagues. Format The 2012 format was originally to consist of five divisions: Divisions 1 and 2 having eight teams in each, Division 3A six, Division 3B seven, and six teams in Division 4. However, this was controversially altered to a system of six divisions, with six teams in divisions 1A, 1B, 2A, 2B and 3A, and four in division 3B. This meant that many counties were effectively relegated to a lower division. David Burke (Galway Hurler)
David Burke (born 7 January 1990) is an Irish hurler who plays as a midfielder or half forward for the Galway senior team. Burke joined the team in 2010 and immediately became a regular member of the starting fifteen. He has won one Leinster winners' medal and two National Hurling League winners' medal. At club level Burke plays with St Thomas's. Burke is a woodwork teacher by profession. Patrick Horgan
Patrick Horgan (born 5 May 1988) is an Irish hurler who plays for Cork Senior Championship club Glen Rovers and at inter-county level with the Cork senior hurling team. He usually lines out as a forward. Playing career Glen Rovers Minor and under-21 Horgan joined the Glen Rovers club at a young age and played in all grades at juvenile and underage levels. On 20 November 2005, he was at right corner-forward when Glen Rovers faced Carrigaline in the Premier County Minor Championship final. Horgan top scored with 0-08, including five frees, in the Glen's 0-15 to 1-08 victory. Horgan was appointed captain of the Glen Rovers minor team for the 2006 season. Promotion And Relegation
In sports leagues, promotion and relegation is a process where teams are transferred between multiple divisions based on their performance for the completed season. Leagues that use promotion and relegation systems are often called open leagues. In a system of promotion and relegation, the best-ranked team(s) in the lower division are ''promoted'' to the higher division for the next season, and the worst-ranked team(s) in the higher division are ''relegated'' to the lower division for the next season. In some leagues, playoffs or qualifying rounds are also used to determine rankings.
