Damaris ( grc-gre, Δάμαρις) is the name of a woman mentioned in a single verse in Acts of the Apostles () as one of those present when Paul of Tarsus preached in Athens in front of the Athenian Areopagus in c. AD 55. Biblical narrative Together with Dionysius the Areopagite Damaris embraced the Christian faith following Paul's Areopagus sermon. The verse reads: :"Howbeit certain men clave unto him, and believed: among the which was Dionysius the Areopagite, and a woman named Damaris, and others with them." Damaris Gabriela Aguirre Aldaz (born July 25, 1977 in Chihuahua, Chihuahua) is a Mexican former weightlifter. She won a silver medal for the 75 kg class at the 2007 Pan American Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, with a total of 240 kilograms. Aguirre made her official debut for the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, where she competed for the women's heavyweight category (75 kg). She finished only in twelfth place by 7.5 kilograms short of her record from El Salvador's Eva Dimas, with a total of 222.5 kg (100 in the snatch and 122.5 in the clean and jerk). ] Damaris, Lady Masham (18 January 1659 – 20 April 1708) was an English writer, philosopher, theologian, and advocate for women's education who is characterized as a proto-feminist. She overcame some weakness of eyesight and lack of access to formal higher education to win high regard among eminent thinkers of her time. Damaris Keith Johnson (born November 22, 1989) is a former American football wide receiver and return specialist for the BC Lions of the Canadian Football League (CFL). After playing college football for the Tulsa Golden Hurricane, he was signed by the Philadelphia Eagles as an undrafted free agent in 2012.
