Damaged Goods (1919 Film)
''Damaged Goods'' is a 1919 British silent drama film directed by Alexander Butler and starring Campbell Gullan, Marjorie Day and J. Fisher White. It was based on the 1901 play '' Les Avariés'' by Eugène Brieux. Because of the play's controversial tackling of the subject of venereal disease, the film had issues with censor boards and attracted a degree of notoriety. Alexander Butler
Alexander Butler was a British film director who made over sixty features and short films during the 1910s and 1920s including many for G. B. Samuelson's production company. Butler directed several British films in Hollywood in 1920, where Samuelson had made an arrangement with Universal Pictures. Annie Esmond
Annie Esmond (27 September 1873 – 4 January 1945) was a British stage and film actress. Esmond was born in Surrey, England. She made her stage debut in pantomime in Sheffield in 1891 and later appeared on the American as well as British stage for many years before going into silent films and later talkies. She became a prolific supporting actress in films, often playing servants and nannies, as in ''Dear Octopus'' (1943). Eugène Brieux (; 19 January 18586 December 1932), French dramatist, was born in Paris of poor parents. Biography Works A one-act play, ''Bernard Palissy'', written in collaboration with M.
