Dalton L. McMichael
Dalton Larkin McMichael Sr. (March 10, 1914 – July 27, 2001) was an American textile executive and philanthropist. He was ranked among the top fifty most influential textile executives in the twentieth century by Textile World Magazine. He was inducted into the Class of 2003 American Textile Hall of Fame by the American Textile History Museum. Early life Dalton Larkin McMichael was born in Wentworth, North Carolina. He was named after his maternal grandparents, Susan Victoria Dalton and Lieutenant Larkin DeShazo, a Confederate States Army, confederate officer who served in 45th Virginia Infantry, May's Company of the 45th Infantry Regiment. He attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill for pre-medicine, later switching to accounting, graduating in 1938. Career McMichael's first textile job was for the Cost Accounting Department at Burlington Industries in Greensboro, North Carolina. He later moved to sales in the hosiery division of the company. Wentworth is a town in Rockingham County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 2,646 at the 2020 census. Wentworth is the county seat of Rockingham County and is part of the Greensboro–High Point metropolitan area of the Piedmont Triad. Geography The town has a total area of 14.4 square miles (37 km), of which, 14.3 square miles (37 km) of it is land and 0.49% or 0.1 square miles (0.26 km) of it is water. Demographics 2020 census As of the 2020 United States census, there were 2,662 people, 953 households, and 691 families residing in the town. 2010 census As of the 2010 U.S. Census, there were 2,807 people and 784 families residing in the town. The population density was 194.3 people per square mile (75.0/km). The racial makeup of the town was 80.89% Caucasian, 16.91% African American, 0.40% Native American, 0.32% Asian, 0.68% from other races, and 0.79% from two or more races.
