Dallas Art Institute
The Dallas Art Institute (1926-1946) was the first art school to offer instruction in a variety of fields in the southern United States. It was founded in 1926 by artists Olin H. Travis and Kathryne Hail Travis and operated until it was closed by the Dallas Museum of Art Trustee, trustees in 1946. History The Dallas Art Institute was founded in 1926 in downtown Dallas, Texas. The founders, artists Olin H. Travis, Olin Travis and his wife Kathryne Hail Travis, had just returned to Olin's hometown of Dallas after receiving arts educations at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Franklin County, Arkansas
Franklin County is a county in Arkansas. As of the 2010 census, the population was 18,125. The county has two county seats, Charleston and Ozark. The county was formed on December 19, 1837, and named for Benjamin Franklin, American statesman. Alexandre Hogue
Alexandre Hogue (February 22, 1898 – July 22, 1994) was an American artist active from the 1930s through the 1960s. He was a realist painter associated with the Dallas Nine; the majority of his works focus on Southwestern United States and South Central United States landscapes during the Dust Bowl. Biography Hogue was born on February 22, 1898, in Memphis, Missouri, to Reverend Charles Lehman Hogue and Mattie Hoover. Soon after, the Hogues moved to Denton, Texas, and later attended the Bryan Street High School in Dallas, Texas, graduating in 1918. After a year at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design, Hogue moved home to Dallas, where he was employed at the ''Dallas Morning News'' as an illustrator. Allie Tennant
Allie Victoria Tennant (1892 or 1898—1971) was an American sculptor born in St. Louis, Missouri, the daughter of Thomas Richard and Allie Virginia Brown Tennant. She worked primarily out of Dallas, Texas, where her most famous work ''Tejas Warrior'' was produced for the Hall of State at the Texas Centennial Exposition. Tennant grew up in an artistic household. Her father was a descendant of British painter John Frederick Tennant and he painted with watercolor and oils in his free time. Tennant's talent as an artist and sculptor emerged at a young age. Even as a toddler, she played with clay and other malleable materials and sculpted them into models. Etching
Etching is traditionally the process of using strong acid or mordant to cut into the unprotected parts of a metal surface to create a design in intaglio (incised) in the metal. In modern manufacturing, other chemicals may be used on other types of material. As a method of printmaking, it is, along with engraving, the most important technique for old master prints, and remains in wide use today. In a number of modern variants such as microfabrication etching and photochemical milling it is a crucial technique in much modern technology, including circuit boards.
