Dale Wilson (politician)
Dale Lester Wilson (born 7 June 1953) is an Australian politician, and a former member of the Victorian Legislative Assembly for Narre Warren South. He was elected in 2002. He is a member of the Australian Labor Party (Victorian Branch), Labor Party and a member of its Socialist Left (Australia), Socialist Left faction. In March 2006, Wilson was opposed and defeated by Judith Graley in a pre-selection ballot for ALP endorsement. She was supported by the Labor Right. After his defeat in the preselection contest, Wilson blamed Police Minister Tim Holding for his defeat. Victorian Legislative Assembly
The Victorian Legislative Assembly is the lower house of the bicameral Parliament of Victoria in Australia; the upper house being the Victorian Legislative Council. Both houses sit at Parliament House in Spring Street, Melbourne. The presiding officer of the Legislative Assembly is the Speaker. There are presently 88 members of the Legislative Assembly elected from single-member divisions. History Victoria was proclaimed a Colony on 1 July 1851 separating from the Colony of New South Wales by an act of the British Parliament. Australian Labor Party (Victorian Branch)
The Australian Labor Party (Victorian Branch), commonly known as Victorian Labor, is the semi-autonomous Victorian branch of the Australian Labor Party (ALP). The Victorian branch comprises two major wings: the parliamentary wing and the organisational wing. The parliamentary wing comprising all elected party members in the Legislative Assembly and Legislative Council, which when they meet collectively constitute the party caucus. The parliamentary leader is elected from and by the caucus, and party factions have a strong influence in the election of the leader. The leader's position is dependent on the continuing support of the caucus (and party factions) and the leader may be deposed by failing to win a vote of confidence of parliamentary members. The Labor Left, also known as the Progressive Left or Socialist Left, is political faction of the Australian Labor Party (ALP). It competes with the more economically liberal Labor Right faction. Judith Graley
Judith Ann Graley (born 26 January 1957) is an Australian politician. Graley was born in Sunshine, Victoria, and graduated from Sunshine West High School in 1974. She attended La Trobe University from 1975 to 1978, receiving a BA (Hons), and went on to receive a Diploma of Education from the University of Melbourne in 1979. In 1980 she returned to La Trobe University as a tutor in the Department of Politics, and the following year became a secondary teacher at Footscray. Judith Graley served as a local government councillor for the Mornington Peninsula Shire Council from 1997 to 2003 and was its mayor from 2000 to 2001. She was a tutor at the University of Melbourne from 1995 to 2000, and in 2002 became electorate officer to Labor MP Alistair Harkness; she worked for Tim Holding from 2004. The Labor Right, also known as Modern Labor, is a political faction of the Australian Labor Party (ALP) at the national level that is characterised by being more economically conservative and, in some cases, more socially conservative. The Labor Right is a broad alliance of various state factions and competes with the Labor Left faction. Timothy James Holding (born 21 August 1972) is a former Australian politician. He was a Australian Labor Party (Victorian Branch), Labor Party member of the Victorian Legislative Assembly from 1999 to 2013. He served as minister for water; minister for finance, WorkCover and the Transport Accident Commission; and minister for tourism and major events in the Brumby Ministry. The electoral district of Narre Warren South is an electorate of the Victorian Legislative Assembly, containing the suburbs of Cranbourne North, Hampton Park, Lynbrook and Narre Warren South.
