Dale H. Learn
Dale H. Learn (December 8, 1897 – March 16, 1976) was an American real estate agent and politician from Pennsylvania. A lifelong temperance advocate, Learn was twice a candidate for political office with the Prohibition Party; in 1942, he ran for Governor of Pennsylvania and in 1948, he was the party's vice-presidential nominee. He was the Prohibition Party's candidate for Governor of Pennsylvania in 1942. He finished in third place (17,385 votes or 0.68%). In June 1947, the Prohibition Party nominated a presidential ticket for the following year which included Learn as vice-president and Claude A. Watson of California at the top of the ticket. The pair received 103,708 votes (0.21%), which placed it sixth nationwide. Personal life Learn was born in Paradise Township, Monroe County, Pennsylvania to Milton S. and Nettie (Bush) Learn. Paradise Township is a township in Monroe County, Pennsylvania in the Pocono Mountains. The population was 2,898 at the 2020 census. Geography According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 21.5 square miles (55.8 km2), of which 21.4 square miles (55.5 km2) is land and 0.1 square mile (0.2 km2) (0.42%) is water. Demographics As of the census of 2000, there were 2,671 people, 996 households, and 724 families residing in the township. The population density was 124.6 people per square mile (48.1/km2). There were 1,306 housing units at an average density of 60.9/sq mi (23.5/km2). The racial makeup of the township was 92.40% White, 3.59% African American, 0.49% Native American, 1.05% Asian, 0.04% Pacific Islander, 1.05% from other races, and 1.39% from two or more races. Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania
Stroudsburg is a borough in Monroe County, Pennsylvania. It lies within the Poconos region, approximately five miles (8 km) from the Delaware Water Gap at the confluence of the Brodhead, McMichaels and Pocono Creeks in Northeastern Pennsylvania. It is also the county seat of Monroe County. Stroudsburg is part of the East Stroudsburg, PA Metropolitan Statistical Area, which in turn is part of the New York combined statistical area. The population was 5,927 at the 2020 census. Stroudsburg is northeast of Allentown and northwest of New York City. History Stroudsburg was laid out by Colonel Jacob Stroud (1735–1806) in 1799. Prohibition Party
The Prohibition Party (PRO) is a political party in the United States known for its historic opposition to the sale or consumption of alcoholic beverages and as an integral part of the temperance movement. It is the oldest existing third party in the United States and the third-longest active party. Although it was never one of the leading parties in the United States, it was once an important force in the Third Party System during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The organization declined following the enactment of Prohibition in the United States but saw a rise in vote totals following the repeal of the Eighteenth Amendment in 1933.
