Dagmar Hjort
Ane Marie Louise Dagmar Hjort née Harbou (1860–1902) was a Danish schoolteacher, writer and women's rights activist. A member of the Danish Women's Society, she was particularly interested in achieving women's voting rights and became a member of the Danske Kvindeforeningers Valgretsudvalg (Suffrage Committee of Danish Women's Associations) when it was established in 1898. She called not only for equality of the sexes in social, economic and political spheres but for women's liberation from family ties to the home. In addition to the articles she contributed to journals and newspapers, she compiled a history of the women's rights movement in North America. Published posthumously as ''Kvinderetsbevægelsen i Nordamerika'' (1906), it was widely used in orienting development of the women's movement in Denmark. Kvindelig Læseforening
Kvindelig Læserforening (English: Women Readers' Association) was a membership-based, private library for women which existed from 1872 until 1945 in Copenhagen, Denmark. Its former building on Gammel Mønt (No. 1) is designed by Ulrik Plesner. It now houses the newspaper Weekendavisen. History Kvindelig Læserforening was founded at the initiative of Sophie Petersen (née Alberti) on 1 October 1872 and was inspired by Läsesalong för Damer in Sweden. The library initially comprised 1,007 volumes. The number of members quickly grew and it outgrew its premises several times. In 1910, the Women Readers' Association purchased a lot at the corner of Gammel Mønt and Antonigade. A four-storey building designed by Ulrik Plesner and Aage Langeland-Mathiesen was completed at the site in 1910. Emma Gad
Emma Gad (21 January 1852 - 8 January 1921), born Emma Halkier, was a Danish writer and socialite who wrote plays and books that were often satirical. Although she was a prolific writer, many of her works fell into obscurity after her death. One work that remained popular was ''Takt og Tone'', a book of etiquette she wrote in old age. She received a gold Medal of Merit in 1905. Today her plays are preserved in Denmark's Royal Library. Biography Gad grew up in a relatively affluent home in Copenhagen. Her father and uncle were the owners of the trading house G. Halkier & Co. She received a good education for a woman at the time and married Nicolas Urban Gad, a rear admiral, in 1872.
