Dagmar Rixt Genee (born 31 January 1989) is a Dutch water polo player for UZSC Utrecht and the Dutch national team. She participated at the 2018 Women's European Water Polo Championship. Netherlands Women's National Water Polo Team
The Netherlands women's national water polo team is the national team of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. It was one of the leading teams in the world during the 1980s and 1990s. More recently they claimed the gold medal at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. The team is governed by the '' Koninklijke Nederlandse Zwembond'' (KNZB). Water Polo
Water polo is a competitive team sport played in water between two teams of seven players each. The game consists of four quarters in which the teams attempt to score goals by throwing the ball into the opposing team's goal. The team with the most goals at the end of the game wins the match. Each team is made up of six field players and one goalkeeper. Excluding the goalkeeper, players participate in both offensive and defensive roles. It is typically played in an all-deep pool where players cannot touch the bottom. A game consists mainly of the players swimming to move about the pool, treading water (mainly using the eggbeater kick), passing the ball, and shooting at the goal. Teamwork, tactical thinking and awareness are also highly important aspects. Water polo is a highly physical and demanding sport and has frequently been cited as one of the most difficult to play. European Water Polo Championship
The European Water Polo Championship is a sport competition for national water polo teams, currently held biannually and organized by the Ligue Européenne de Natation (LEN), the governing European aquatics federation. There are both men's and women's competitions. The first European Water Polo Championship was held in 1926 in Budapest, Hungary, with just a men's competition. The women for the first time competed in 1985 (Oslo, Norway) for the European title. The water polo tournament was part of the European Aquatics Championships up to and including 1997, and from 1999 the event was separated and got its own independent tournament. 2018 Women's European Water Polo Championship
The 2018 Women's European Water Polo Championship was held from 14 to 27 July 2018 in Barcelona, Spain. The Netherlands won their fifth title by defeating Greece 6-4 in the final. Spain captured the bronze medal after a 12-6 win over Hungary. Qualification Twelve teams were allowed to the tournament. The qualification was as follows: * The host nation * The best five teams from the 2016 European Championships * Six teams from the qualifiers Format The twelve teams were split in two groups with six teams each. The first four teams of each group played each other in the quarterfinals in cross group format, the remaining teams played for places nine to twelve. Squads Draw The draw of the tournament took take place on 7 March in Barcelona.
