Dagger Records
Dagger Records is an American record label based in Seattle, Washington. Dagger produces and releases, in conjunction with Experience Hendrix, L.L.C. and MCA Records, official Jimi Hendrix bootlegs and collections of rare studio recordings. The first Dagger release was ''Live at the Oakland Coliseum'', a live album documenting The Jimi Hendrix Experience's performance at the Oakland Coliseum, Oakland, California on April 27, 1969. The label has released twelve albums from to 1998 to 2012, one album nearly every year (except in 2007, 2010 and 2011) and a thirteenth (and last to date) album in 2017. Dagger releases are not distributed to retail outlets, they are only available by ordering online from the company themselves or Authentic Hendrix. MCA Records
MCA Records was an American record label owned by MCA Inc., which later became part of Universal Music Group. Pre-history MCA Inc., a powerful talent agency and a television production company, entered the recorded music business in 1962 with the purchase of the New York-based US Decca Records (established in 1934), including Coral Records and Brunswick Records. MCA was forced to exit the talent agency business in order to complete the merger. As American Decca owned Universal Pictures, MCA assumed full ownership of Universal and made it into a top film studio, producing several hits. ''Live in Paris & Ottawa 1968'' is a posthumous live album by the Jimi Hendrix Experience, released on September 5, 2008, by Dagger Records. The album contains songs from the band's performances at the L'Olympia Theatre in Paris on January 29, 1968, and the Capitol Theatre in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, on March 19, 1968. The concert in Paris had been issued as part of the 1991 box set ''Stages''. The three songs from the concert in Ottawa are sourced from a previously undiscovered tape and were recorded during the first show of that evening. The second show at the Capitol Theatre in Ottawa had been issued in October 2001 as the album ''Live in Ottawa''. ''Live at the Isle of Fehmarn'' is a posthumous live album by Jimi Hendrix, released on December 13, 2005, by Dagger Records. It was recorded by the post-Band of Gypsys Jimi Hendrix Experience that included Hendrix, Mitch Mitchell, and Billy Cox. The album documents their performance at the Open Air Love & Peace Festival in Fehmarn, West Germany on September 6, 1970, which was Hendrix's final official concert performance. Several amateur recordings were made and released as bootlegs over the years, and after a new audio recording made by the festival’s promoter surfaced, the album was mixed and produced. Indeed, unknown to Hendrix, the promoters captured the group’s entire performance by feeding two overhead stage microphones into a consumer grade Revox reel-to-reel tape machine located off to the side of the stage. The album contains songs from the group's performances at the L' Olympia Theatre in Paris on October 9, 1967, and the Fillmore Auditorium in San Francisco, California, on February 4, 1968. In 2021, an expanded edition focusing on the Paris performance was released by Dagger.
