Dagan (god)
Dagon ( he, דָּגוֹן, ''Dāgōn'') or Dagan ( sux, 2= dda-gan, ; phn, 𐤃𐤂𐤍, Dāgān) was a god worshipped in ancient Syria across the middle of the Euphrates, with primary temples located in Tuttul and Terqa, though many attestations of his cult come from cities such as Mari and Emar as well. In settlements situated in the upper Euphrates area he was regarded as the "father of gods" similar to Mesopotamian Enlil or Hurrian Kumarbi, as well as a lord of the land, a god of prosperity, and a source of royal legitimacy. A large number of theophoric names, both masculine and feminine, attests that he was a popular deity. He was also worshiped further east, in Mesopotamia, where many rulers regarded him as the god capable of granting them kingship over the western areas. Attestations of Dagan from coastal areas are much less frequent and come mostly from the northern city of Ugarit, where Dagan's cult had a limited scope. The Dagan or Meneao Range languages are a small family of Trans–New Guinea languages spoken in the Meneao Range of the " Bird's Tail" (southeastern peninsula) of New Guinea, the easternmost Papuan languages on the mainland. They are the most divergent of the several small families within the Southeast Papuan branch of Trans–New Guinea. Languages The languages are: * Onjob * Southwest ** Daga ** Maiwa language, Mapena * East ** Southeast: Ginuman, Kanasi (Sona) ** Northeast: Dima (Jimajima), Umanakaina (Gwedena), and the nearly extinct Turaka Although clearly related, they are not particularly close. Shunchang County
Shunchang County (; Northern Min: ) is a county under the administration of Nanping City, in the northwest of Fujian province, People's Republic of China. The county's name was established in 933, during the Tang Dynasty. It has a total population of approximately 241,200 people as of the end of 2003. It is a key region for forestry and the production of coarse bamboo in Fujian. Administrative divisions Shunchang County administers one subdistrict, seven towns, and four rural townships. History During the Ottoman period, the area of Beit Dagan belonged to the Nahiyeh (sub-district) of Lod that encompassed the area of the present-day city of Modi'in-Maccabim-Re'ut in the south to the present-day city of El'ad in the north, and from the foothills in the east, through the Lod Valley to the outskirts of Jaffa in the west. This area was home to thousands of inhabitants in about 20 villages, who had at their disposal tens of thousands of hectares of prime agricultural land. Personal life and education Meir Huberman (later Dagan) was born on a train on the outskirts of Kherson, between the Soviet Union and Poland during World War II to Polish Jewish parents who were fleeing Poland for the Soviet Union to escape the Holocaust. Dagan Yivzori ( he, דגן יבזורי; born October 15, 1985) is an Israeli basketball player who last played for Ironi Nahariya of the Israeli Premier League. He was the 2014 Israeli Basketball Premier League Finals MVP. He also plays for the Israeli national team in the international level.
