Da Mouth
Da Mouth () was a Taiwanese hip hop band made up of MC40, DJ Chung Hua, male vocalist Harry, and female vocalist Aisa. They were formed in 2007 and disbanded in 2016. They are considered the Asian The Black Eyed Peas due to the group's diversity. The band's Chinese band name directly translates into "big mouth". Their English band name is derived from the concatenation of the Chinese character for "big" 大, which when romanized using pinyin becomes "dà", and the translation of the second half of their Chinese band name. They released their self-titled debut album ''Da Mouth'' on 16 November 2007. Taipei (), officially Taipei City, is the capital and a special municipality of the Republic of China (Taiwan). Golden Melody Awards
The Golden Melody Awards (), commonly abbreviated as GMA, is an honor awarded by Taiwan's Ministry of Culture to recognize outstanding achievement in the Mandarin, Taiwanese Hokkien, Hakka, and Formosan-languages popular and traditional music industry. The GMAs are awarded on the basis of votes by members of jury, and it has constantly been recognized as the equivalent to the Grammy Awards in Chinese-speaking world. It shares recognition of the music industry as that of the other performance awards such as the Golden Bell Awards (television) and the Golden Horse Awards (motion pictures). The 1st Golden Melody Awards was held on January 6, 1990, to honor the popular music production by performers. Mandopop
Mandopop or Mandapop refers to Standard Chinese, Mandarin popular music. The genre has its origin in the jazz-influenced popular music of 1930s Shanghai known as Shidaiqu; with later influences coming from Japanese enka, Hong Kong's Cantopop, Taiwan's Hokkien pop, and in particular the School campus song, Campus Song folk movement of the 1970s. 'Mandopop' may be used as a general term to describe popular songs performed in Mandarin. Though Mandopop predates Cantopop, the English term was coined around 1980 after "Cantopop" became a popular term for describing popular songs in Cantonese. Urban Contemporary
Urban contemporary music, also known as urban music, hip hop, urban pop, or just simply urban, is a music radio format. The term was coined by New York radio DJ Frankie Crocker in the early to mid-1970s as a synonym for Black music. Urban contemporary radio stations feature a playlist made up entirely of Black genres such as R&B, pop-rap, quiet storm, urban adult contemporary, hip hop, Latin music such as Latin pop, Chicano R&B and Chicano rap, and Caribbean music such as reggae and soca. Aisa Senda
is a Japanese singer, actress, and television presenter. She made her debut in 2000 in Taiwan as part of the girls group Sunday Girls, and has concentrated her activities in Taiwan since then. She is capable of speaking both Japanese and Mandarin, and had appeared in a number of commercials, programs, and television dramas. She is also the vocalist of the Mandarin pop band Da Mouth, which was formed in November 2007. Career Senda was born and raised in Ginowan, Okinawa, Japan, where she had been attending Okinawa Actors School since the age of nine. In 2000, after the unexpected departure of Ando Yuko from Super Sunday, a popular television program in Taiwan, Senda was brought in to fill the opened spot. Hsueh Shih-ling (; born June 10, 1983), also known as Simon Hsueh or MC40, is a Taiwanese actor, singer, rapper, songwriter and television presenter. He is formerly a member of the defunct Taiwanese hip hop band Da Mouth, with DJ Chung Hua, Harry, and Aisa. Taiwanese Hip Hop
Taiwanese hip hop music started in the early 1990s, popularized by the early hip hop trio L.A. Boyz. A distinctive style of rap emerged using Taiwanese Hokkien as opposed to the Mandarin Chinese used in Mandopop. Cultural context A mid-70s movement titled the Modern Folksong Movement sought to reclaim hip hop for the Taiwanese people. Artists such as Yang Xian and Li Shuangz inspired a new generation of localization of music which strove to strip away the years of American cultural imperialism. Ceremonies of the 19th Golden Melody Awards () were held in Taipei, Taiwan in 2008. Nominees were announced on May 22, 2008, and the award winners in 12 traditional music categories (of 47 nominees) and 23 popular music categories (of 124 nominees) were selected by a panel of 33 judges after four rounds of jury meetings. Initially, there were 10,632 submissions from 185 companies in the music industry, making it the largest submission pool in the Awards' history.
