DC Animated Universe
The DC Animated Universe (DCAU; also referred to as the Timmverse or Diniverse by fans referring to the creators and producers Bruce Timm and Paul Dini respectively) is a shared universe consisting primarily of superhero-based animated television series, produced by Warner Bros. Animation and based on characters that appear in American comic books published by DC Comics. The shared universe, much like the original DC Universe in comic books, was established by fictional crossover, crossing over common plot elements, settings, cast, and characters. The DCAU began with ''Batman: The Animated Series'' (1992–1995); it ended as an ongoing TV franchise with ''Justice League Unlimited'' (2004–2006). The associated media franchise also includes the theatrical film ''Batman: Mask of the Phantasm'' (1993), as well as direct-to-video films, Short film, shorts, comic books, video games, and other multimedia adaptations set in the same continuity. Justice League Unlimited
''Justice League Unlimited'' (''JLU'') is a 2004–2006 United States, American superhero fiction, superhero List of animated television series, animated television series that was produced by Warner Bros. Animation and aired on Cartoon Network. Featuring a wide array of superheroes from the DC Comics universe, and specifically based on the Justice League superhero team, it is a direct sequel to the previous Justice League (TV series), ''Justice League'' animated series and picks up around two years after where ''Justice League'' left off. American Comic Book
An American comic book is a thin periodical originating in the United States, on average 32 pages, containing comics. While the form originated in 1933, American comic books first gained popularity after the 1938 publication of ''Action Comics'', which included the debut of the superhero Superman. This was followed by a superhero boom that lasted until the end of World War II. After the war, while superheroes were marginalized, the comic book industry rapidly expanded and genres such as horror, crime, science fiction and romance became popular. The 1950s saw a gradual decline, due to a shift away from print media in the wake of television and the impact of the Comics Code Authority.
