DBL Champion
The Dutch basketball champions, are the winners of the highest level of basketball in the Netherlands, which is the BNXT League since 2022. This page is a list of winners and runners-up in each given DBL season, along with additional information. Den Bosch has won a total number of 16 titles, the highest of any club. Currently, only four teams that have won championships are still active in the DBL: Den Bosch, Landstede Hammers, Leiden and Donar. From 1945 to 2021, the Dutch basketball champion came from the Dutch Basketball League (formerly the Eredivisie). Since 2022, the champion is decided through the BNXT League; this league features Belgian teams as well but organises a playoffs to determine the Dutch champions. Flamingo's Haarlem
Flamingo's Haarlem was a professional basketball team based in Haarlem, Netherlands. Flamingo's played in the Eredivisie from 1960 till 1983, excluding the 1961–62 season. The team won the Dutch championship and NBB Cup four times. The Flamingo's also played at the highest European stage many times: in the 1966–67, 1968–69, 1970–71, 1971–72 and 1973–74 season the team did at least play in the qualifying round. The team was founded in 1954 as Black Pirates by baseball players who before played for several different teams. In its first year they were the city champions of Haarlem and finished third in the national league. The games were played in the Krelagehuis, despite there being no changing rooms and showers. Bill Sheridan (basketball)
William E. Sheridan Jr. (January 11, 1942 – December 26, 2020) was an American basketball coach. He made a name for himself coaching for several clubs in the Netherlands, as well as for the Dutch national team. Early life Sheridan grew up in West Brighton, Staten Island and played for St. Peter's Boys High School, where he was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2001. He also played baseball, being a pitcher for the Uncle Bill Canlon's Travelers. He served in the United States Marine Corps where he rose to the rank of captain. Coaching career Sheridan started his coaching career as an assistant coach with Virginia Technical Institute. In December 1973, Sheridan signed as head coach of Punch Delft of the Dutch Eredivisie. Punch went on a 16-game win streak in the season and also won the NBB Cup. In his second season with Punch, the club won its second ever Eredivisie title. Ton Boot
Antoine "Ton" Boot (born October 16, 1940) is a Dutch retired professional basketball coach and player. Boot is viewed as one of the best Dutch coaches ever, because of his 14 national titles in the Netherlands. The Dutch newspaper '' De Volkskrant'' named him the best Dutch sports coach of the 20th century. Playing career In 1958 Boot won his first Dutch championship with DED Amsterdam. After that he won the national title another four times, in 1961, 1964 and 1965 with The Wolves Amsterdam and five years later with Blue Stars. In December 1959, Boot scored 53 points in a game against Monark, which was the all-time scoring record in the Dutch Basketball League until 1979, when Tony Parker Sr. scored 63 points. The Dutch Basketball Supercup, also known as the DBL Supercup, is the super cup competition of professional basketball in the Netherlands. The match is played by the champions of the Dutch Basketball League and the winner of the NBB Cup. It is a super cup competition. The first Supercup game was held in 2011. NBB Cup
The Basketball Cup, formerly the NBB Cup ( nl, NBB-Beker), is an annual cup competition for Dutch basketball teams organised by the Basketball Nederland. Every team in the Netherlands can participate by signing up for the preliminary rounds. Professional basketball teams from the Dutch Basketball League (DBL) enter the tournament in the fourth round. From 1977 until 1990 professional teams were not allowed to participate in the competition. The tournament is organized in a knock-out format, with quarter- and semi-finals being two-legged series while the final is played in a single game. Heroes Den Bosch and Donar are the two clubs with the most cup titles, as both have a total of 7 titles. Heroes Den Bosch is a Dutch professional basketball club based in 's-Hertogenbosch. The club plays in the BNXT League since 2021 and in the top basketball division in the Netherlands since 1972.
