Dutch Basketball League
The Dutch Basketball League (DBL), formerly the Eredivisie, was the highest professional basketball league in the Netherlands, run by the Federatie Eredivisie Basketball (FEB). Since 2021, the league has been replaced by the Belgian-Dutch BNXT League. The league had a closed system: to participate, a team has to have enough money and potential. The league began in 1960 as the ''Eredivisie'' and was organized by the NBB and later the FEB. In 1977 the league introduced play-offs. As of 2019, the Dutch Basketball League consists of ten teams and plays under the FIBA rules. History 2010s Starting with the 2010–11 season, the Eredivisie changed its name to the Dutch Basketball League, shortly the DBL. The beginning of the 2010s saw Donar and ZZ Leiden emerge as top teams in the Netherlands. Donar won five titles, including three straight (2015-2018). The decade also saw clubs disappear due to financial problems, with Amsterdam in 2011, West-Brabant Giants in 2011, Magixx in 2014. ...

Toon Van Helfteren
Anton J. J. "Toon" van Helfteren (born 20 February 1951) is a Dutch former basketball player and current coach of Feyenoord Basketball. Van Helfteren played in the Dutch Basketball League from 1971 till 1990. He was the coach of ZZ Leiden from 2008 till 2014. He also was the coach of the Dutch national basketball team for six years, starting in 2013 and ending in 2019. Professional career A product of BC Paulus Tilburg in his hometown, he joined Punch Delft in 1971. Van Helfteren played 19 seasons in the Dutch Eredivisie from 1971 till 1990. Between 1983 and 1986 van Helfteren was a member of Elmex Leiden, from 1986 to 1990 for DAS Delft. In 1986 Van Helfteren won the Dutch MVP award. National team career Van Helfteren played 207 games for the Dutch national basketball team, which makes him the all-time leader in games played for the Netherlands. Jimmy "Shimmy" Moore (born January 13, 1952) is an American former basketball player and author. He played college basketball with the Utah State and later worked as assistant coach and administrator for the university. During the 1970s and 1980s, Moore played professionally in the Dutch Eredivisie for several clubs. Standing at , Moore played as power forward. Early life Moore grew up in Leakesville, Mississippi as the son of a pulpwood worker and domestic servant and grew up with 11 siblings. As a kid, he was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis but eventually recovered. He attended Leakesville High School, where he experienced regular racism. College career Moore played for Utah State for three seasons from 1972 to 1975 after he was recruited by coach Dale Brown. He recorded 30 straight double-double games in his career. Jim "Jimmy" Woudstra (born June 22, 1952) is an American-Dutch former professional basketball player. He was a standout college player for the Northwestern Red Raiders, where he is the all-time scoring leader. Woudstra played six seasons of professional basketball in the Dutch Eredivisie, for Punch Delft and Parker Leiden. He also represented the Netherlands national team.
