DAPD News Agency
DAPD News Agency (in German ''dapd Nachrichtenagentur'') was a German news agency. Overview It was founded in September 2010 with its headquarters in Berlin. It was the second largest German news agency. It originated from the former West-German news agency ''Deutscher Depeschendienst'' (ddp), which had been "built out of remnants of the old UPI news service and the former East-German state-sponsored news service" ADN after reunification. In 2009, under private equity ownership, DDP acquired the German branch of the American news agency Associated Press (AP), and the combined agency was renamed DAPD in 2010. The owners were Martin Vorderwülbecke and Peter Löw, Managing Directors. Chief Editor was Cord Dreyer. The fully international news agency covered both regional and international issues. Overview It was founded 1973 by the Turkish newsphotographer and photojournalist Gökşin Sipahioğlu together with American writer Phyllis Springer, concentrating their activities from the beginning on photojournalism. Sipa Press is in France the leading photo agency distributing up to 6000 newspictures every day to customers in more than 40 countries worldwide. It covers politics, economy, entertainment and sports. 20 million pictures are filed in Sipa's archives and 12 million in its digital database. The editorial staff consists of 91 members, about 600 correspondents contribute to the service. Peter Löw
Peter Werner Maria Löw (born 21 October 1960) is a German lawyer and entrepreneur. Life Peter Löw was born in 1960 in Ludwigshafen, Germany. In 1987, he started his doctoral studies in history at the University of Münster under the supervision of military historian Werner Hahlweg. After Hahlweg passed away, Löw found a new supervisor in Eckardt Opitz of Helmut Schmidt University, and in 1989 obtained a doctorate (Dr. phil.) for a dissertation on the Prussian army. In 1991, he enrolled at Insead, where he received an MBA. In 1992, he submitted a dissertation on municipal law in Nazi Germany under the supervision of Franz-Ludwig Knemeyer at the University of Würzburg for which he received a legal doctorate (Dr. iur. utr.). In 2012, Löw became a member of the senate of the college of philosophy and theology of the Philosophical-Theological University Heiligenkreuz. The Allgemeiner Deutscher Nachrichtendienst (ADN), German for ''General German News Service'', was the state news agency in the German Democratic Republic (GDR). It supplied news content to GDR newspapers and news broadcasters. History The ADN was established in October 1946 as a GmbH (limited liability company) with the support of the Soviet Military Administration in Germany. In 1953, the GDR's ruling Socialist Unity Party (SED) ordered ADN GmbH dissolved and converted into a government agency with a monopoly on national and international news coverage.
