Dónal O'Neill
Dónal O'Neill (1967 – 10 October 2023) was an Irish Gaelic footballer. At club level he played with Edenderry and at inter-county level with the Offaly senior football team. O'Neill usually lined out as a goalkeeper. Career O'Neill first appeared at senior level for Edenderry as a 17-year-old in 1984. A year later, he was part of the team that beat Raheen by a point to win the Offaly SFC title. At inter-county level, O'Neill was part of the Offaly minor and under-21 teams in 1985, before making his senior team debut in a 3–16 to 1–08 defeat of Louth in that year's Leinster SFC. O'Neill captained the Offaly under-21 team to the Leinster U21FC title in 1986. He claimed a second winners' medal in 1988, before adding an All-Ireland medal to his collection after an 0–11 to 0–09 defeat of Cavan. Edenderry
Edenderry (; ) is a town in east County Offaly, Ireland. It is near the borders with Counties Kildare, Meath and Westmeath. The Grand Canal runs along the south of Edenderry, through the Bog of Allen, and there is a short spur to the town centre. The R401 road from Kinnegad to the north and the R402 from Enfield to the east meet at the northeastern end of the Main Street. At the Grand Canal they split, with the R402 continuing westwards towards Tullamore and the R401 heads south to Rathangan and Kildare Town. History In the 16th century, Edenderry was known as Coolestown, after the family of Cooley or Cowley, who had a castle here. It was defended in 1599 against the Confederates, during the Nine Years' War (Ireland). This subsequently passed by marriage to the Blundell family and was sacked in 1691 by the army of James II. All-Ireland Under-21 Football Championship
The GAA Football Under-20 All-Ireland Championship (known for sponsorship reasons as the EirGrid GAA Football Under-20 All-Ireland Championship) is an annual inter-county Gaelic football competition organised by the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA). It is the highest inter-county hurling competition for male players between the ages of 17 and 20 in Ireland. The championship was contested as the All-Ireland Under-21 Championship between 1964 and 2017 before changing to an under-20 age category from 2018. The final, usually held in August, serves as the culmination of a series of games played during the summer months, and the results determine which team receives the Clarke Cup. The All-Ireland Championship had always been played on a straight knockout basis whereby once a team loses they are eliminated from the championship. The 1986 All-Ireland Under-21 Football Championship was the 23rd staging of the All-Ireland Under-21 Football Championship since its establishment by the Gaelic Athletic Association in 1964. The 1988 All-Ireland Under-21 Football Championship was the 25th staging of the All-Ireland Under-21 Football Championship since its establishment by the Gaelic Athletic Association in 1964. Donegal entered the championship as defending champions, however, they were defeated in the Ulster Championship. On 26 June 1988, Offaly won the championship following an 0-11 to 0-9 defeat of Cavan in the All-Ireland final. This was their second All-Ireland title overall and their first in five championship seasons. University Of Maynooth
St Patrick's Pontifical University, Maynooth ( ga, Coláiste Naoimh Phádraig, Maigh Nuad), is a pontifical Catholic university in the town of Maynooth near Dublin, Ireland. The college and national seminary on its grounds are often referred to as Maynooth College. The college was officially established as the Royal College of St Patrick by Maynooth College Act 1795. Thomas Pelham, the Chief Secretary for Ireland, introduced a bill for the foundation of a Catholic college, and this was enacted by parliament. It was opened to hold up to 500 students for the Catholic priesthood of whom up to 90 would be ordained each year, and was once the largest seminary in the world.
