Dynamite (1929 Film)
''Dynamite'' is a 1929 American pre-Code drama film produced and directed by Cecil B. DeMille and starring Conrad Nagel, Kay Johnson, Charles Bickford, and Julia Faye. Written by Jeanie MacPherson, John Howard Lawson, and Gladys Unger, the film is about a convicted murderer scheduled to be executed, whom a socialite marries simply to satisfy a condition of her grandfather's will. Mitchell Leisen was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Art Direction. Plot Coal miner Hagon Derk is sentenced to hang for murder. His only concern is for his young sister Katie, who will be left all alone. Frivolous socialite Cynthia Crothers has her own troubles. Jane Keckley
Jane Keckley (September 10, 1876 – August 14, 1963) was an American actress of the silent and sound film eras. Biography Keckley was born in Charleston, South Carolina, and went to school there and in Georgia. Before she acted in films, Keckley performed in stock theater and in vaudeville. Keckley began her film career in one- and two-reel Westerns in 1911. Her first feature film was 1915's ''The Circular Staircase'' (under the name Jane Watson). In her twenty-five year career, she would appear in over 90 films, as well as dozens of shorts. James Farley (January 8, 1882 – October 12, 1947) was an American character actor of the silent and sound film eras. Biography Born in Waldron, Arkansas, on January 8, 1882, Farley made his film debut in the 1916 silent film ''Sins of Her Parent''. During his thirty-year film career he appeared in over 200 films and film shorts, including over 175 feature films. Farley worked right up until his death; his final film was released after his death, 1948's '' The Man from Texas''. The production of the film ended in early June 1947, and Farley died shortly after, on October 12, 1947, in Pacoima, California. Clarence Burton
Clarence Forrest Burton (May 10, 1882 – December 2, 1933) was an American silent film actor. Biography Burton was born in Fort Lyon, in Benton County, Missouri and started in show business at the age of 5, playing stock and musical comedy in road productions. He was signed into films in late 1912 and starred in 132 films between 1913 and 1932. By late 1920, Burton had become heavy enough to be considered unsuited for his typical villainous roles in films. A trainer supervised a program of exercise and diet until Burton had lost enough weight to be cast in the Paramount film ''The Jacklins''. He died of a heart attack in 1933 at the age of 51 in Hollywood, California. His interment was located at Hollywood Forever Cemetery, but was removed on September 6, 1950. Tyler Brooke (born Victor Hugo de Bierre, June 6, 1886 – March 2, 1943) was an American film actor. He appeared in more than 90 films between 1915 and 1943. He was born in New York, New York and died in Los Angeles, California by committing suicide by carbon monoxide poisoning. Before he became an entertainer, Brooke was a bank clerk and an attorney. He began on the stage at the Globe Theatre, New York City in 1912. He went to Los Angeles in 1925 with '' No, No, Nanette'' as a comedian and was captured for screen. He worked for Hal Roach for a year and a half before going into other films. In 1929, he sued Oliver Hardy for $109,570 damages, alleging that Hardy struck him across the arm with a billiard cue, fracturing it and preventing him working for 12 weeks. Neely Edwards (born Cornelius Limbach; September 16, 1883 – July 10, 1965) was an American vaudeville performer and film actor. Biography Edwards appeared in 174 films between 1915 and 1959. The first was as an unbilled player in a Harold Lloyd short. In the early 1920s Edwards and his vaudeville partner Edward Flanagan appeared as the "Hall Room Boys" in some of the earliest short films produced by Cohn-Brandt-Cohn Film Sales, which would develop into Columbia Pictures. Of his credited film appearances, about 140 are comedy short subjects, notably the "Nervy Ned" one-reelers made for Universal Pictures from 1922-24, in which he and Bert Roach played a couple of hoboes who typically get into slapstick trouble. June Nash (January 26, 1911 - October 8, 1979) was an American film actress. Nash started her film career in Frank Capra's ''Say It with Sables'' in 1928. Later in her career, she appeared Francis X. Barton Hepburn (February 28, 1906 – October 9, 1955) was an American actor who specialized in drama and comedy. Early life Hepburn was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota and was heir to a New York banking fortune. He was a son of Charles Fisher Hepburn (1878–1923), and Alice ( née Smith) Hepburn (1881–1914), a daughter of Horatio Alden Smith.
