Dunbar School (Phoenix, Arizona)
Dunbar Elementary School (Also known as Dunbar School) is an elementary school in Phoenix, Arizona that was once segregated. History Dunbar School was one of the first elementary school built by Phoenix Elementary School District specifically for African-American students. It is named after poet Paul Laurence Dunbar. While officials with the Dunbar School has labeled the school as a "historically Black school" during the era of segregation, contemporary sources have described the school as a segregated school during the era. At the time, segregation was optional for high schools in Arizona, but mandatory for elementary schools. The school, along with Frederick Douglass and Booker T. Washington, were the three segregated elementary schools in Phoenix. By 1925, the school outgrew its two classrooms, and parents of those who attended the school depaded a new school, resulting in the construction of a one-story brick building. Dunbar School (Tucson, Arizona)
Dunbar School was a segregated middle school in Tucson, Arizona which closed as an integrated school in 1978. The school, during its segregated era, was named after African-American poet Paul Laurence Dunbar. History Dunbar School, first named Colored School, was opened to African American students on September 22, 1913. At first, students attended classes at a small building, later moving to a new premise. Construction of a new building for the school was financed by a 1917 bond issue of $150,000 that also financed the construction of Safford Junior High School, in addition to financing repairs to existing school buildings. The school was noted for having deficient funding, and the building did not have a cafeteria, auditorium, or new textbooks. The school, however, would get an auditorium, cafeteria, and 23 classrooms in 1948. Dunbar Gifted & Talented Education International Studies Magnet Middle School is a magnet middle school for students in grades 6 through 8 located in Little Rock, Arkansas, United States. Dunbar Magnet Middle School is administered by the Little Rock School District. It is named for the nationally known African-American poet, Paul Laurence Dunbar. With construction supported by the Rosenwald Fund and a matching program, the school was built in 1929. For nearly three decades it provided comprehensive education for black students in Little Rock, under a segregated system. Its curriculum covered junior and senior high school classes, as well as some junior college. After 1955 the junior college was discontinued and, with construction of a new high school, this building was devoted to junior high school. Dunbar () is a town on the North Sea coast in East Lothian in the south-east of Scotland, approximately east of Edinburgh and from the English border north of Berwick-upon-Tweed. Dunbar is a former royal burgh, and gave its name to an ecclesiastical and civil parish. Paul Laurence Dunbar High School is a comprehensive high school in the Stop Six neighborhood of Fort Worth, Texas, United States. Named for the dialectical poet Paul Laurence Dunbar, the school strives to educate the majority African-American community it serves. History Formal education in the Stop Six area was established in 1907 with the Rustville School, which joined the Fort Worth Public School System in 1924. Dunbar School is a historic school building located in Fairmont, Marion County, West Virginia. It was built in 1928, and the first classes were held in January 1929. The school was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2015. History Dunbar was attended by black students in grades one through twelve. It was the only school for black children in Fairmont, and the only black high school for Marion County. According to Christopher Belkon Agba, “Dunbar School was the center of the Westside community now-African American community in Fairmontfor socialization, communication, relationship building, and an education center of the neighborhood.
