Duke Of Suárez
Duke of Suárez ( es, Duque de Suárez) is a hereditary title in the Spanish nobility. The dukedom was bestowed by King Juan Carlos on Adolfo Suarez González on 25 February 1981, following his resignation as Spanish Prime Minister, in recognition of his role in the Spanish transition to democracy. The Duke of Suárez is also a Grandee of Spain. The current holder of the title is Alejandra Romero Suárez, Adolfo Suárez's granddaughter. Unsuccessful petition Shortly after the first Duke's death in 2014, it was reported that in 2009 his son Adolfo Suárez Illana had unsuccessfully written to King Juan Carlos I to ask him to use the supposed historic powers of the Crown to alter the legal line of succession to make him heir to his father's title of Duke of Suárez instead of his niece Alejandra Suárez Romero, daughter and heir of Mariam Suárez Illana (his father's eldest child, who had died in 2004). This was on the basis that, although he himself cared little or nothing fo ... [...More Info...]       [...Related Items...]     OR:     [Wikipedia]   [Google]   [Baidu]   |

Dukes Of Suárez
Duke is a male title either of a monarch ruling over a duchy, or of a member of royalty, or nobility. As rulers, dukes are ranked below emperors, kings, grand princes, grand dukes, and sovereign princes. As royalty or nobility, they are ranked below princess nobility and grand dukes. The title comes from French ''duc'', itself from the Latin ''dux'', 'leader', a term used in republican Rome to refer to a military commander without an official rank (particularly one of Germanic or Celtic origin), and later coming to mean the leading military commander of a province. In most countries, the word ''duchess'' is the female equivalent. Following the reforms of the emperor Diocletian (which separated the civilian and military administrations of the Roman provinces), a ''dux'' became the military commander in each province. The title ''dux'', Hellenised to ''doux'', survived in the Eastern Roman Empire where it continued in several contexts, signifying a rank equivalent to a captain o ... Dukedoms Of Spain
This is a list of the 149 present and extant royal and non-royal dukes in the peerage of the Kingdom of Spain. The oldest six titles – created between 1380 and 1476 – were Duke of Medina Sidonia (1380), Duke of Alburquerque (1464), Duke of Segorbe (1469), Duke of Alba (1472), Duke of Escalona (1472), and Duke of Infantado (1475). Spanish dukes have precedence over other ranks of Spanish nobility, nowadays all holding the court rank of '' Grande de España'', ''i.e.'' Grandee of the Realm. The only exception to this is the Dukedom of Fernandina, which due to a series of complex rehabilitation processes was never recognised with such title.Salazar y Acha, Jaime de, ''Los grandes de España (siglos XV-XXI)'', Ediciones Hidalguía (Madrid, 2012), p. 474 Dukes in the peerage of Spain See also *Spanish nobility *Grandee of Spain *List of viscounts in the peerage of Spain *List of barons in the peerage of Spain *List of lords in the peerage of Spain References Bibliograp ... Prime Minister Of Spain
The prime minister of Spain, officially president of the Government ( es, link=no, Presidente del Gobierno), is the head of government of Spain. The office was established in its current form by the Constitution of 1978 and it was first regulated in 1823 as a chairmanship of the extant Council of Ministers, although it is not possible to determine when it actually originated. Upon a vacancy, the Spanish monarch nominates a presidency candidate for a vote of confidence by the Congress of Deputies, the lower house of the Cortes Generales (parliament). The process is a parliamentarian investiture by which the head of government is indirectly elected by the elected Congress of Deputies. In practice, the prime minister is almost always the leader of the largest party in the Congress. Since current constitutional practice in Spain calls for the king to act on the advice of his ministers, the prime minister is the country's ''de facto'' chief executive.
