''Duke of Madness Motors: The Complete "Dear Friends" Radio Era'' is a book and data DVD set collecting the complete works of comedy group the Firesign Theatre's 1970s radio shows ''Firesign Theatre Radio Hour Hour'', '' Dear Friends'', and ''Let's Eat.'' The set includes a 108-page book containing a historical essay, interviews, original scripts, and collages by Firesign founder Phil Proctor. The data DVD contains more than 80 hours of material on MP3 audio, including 24 episodes of ''Firesign Theatre Radio Hour Hour'', 21 episodes of ''Dear Friends'', 12 episodes of ''Let's Eat,'' and a 1972 series finale, ''Martian Space Party''. The Firesign Theatre
The Firesign Theatre (also known as the Firesigns) was an American surreal humour, surreal comedy troupe who first appeared on November 17, 1966, in a live performance on the Los Angeles radio program ''Radio Free Oz'' on station KPFK FM broadcasting, FM. They continued appearing on ''Radio Free Oz'', which later moved to KRLA 1110 AM broadcasting, AM and then KMET (FM), KMET FM, through February 1969. They produced fifteen album, record albums and a single (music), 45 rpm single under contract to Columbia Records from 1967 through 1976, and had three nationally syndicated radio programs: ''The Firesign Theatre Radio Hour Hour'' [sic] in 1970 on KPPC-FM; and ''Dear Friends (radio program), Dear Friends'' (1970–1971) and ''Let's Eat!'' (1971–1972) on KPFK. Stand Up! Records is an American independent comedy record label founded in Minneapolis, Minnesota, by Grammy-winning producer Dan Schlissel. It has been called "the country's most respected indie comedy label." Stand Up! has released more than 200 comedy albums and videos since its founding in 2000, including albums by Lewis Black, Patton Oswalt, Greg Proops, David Cross, Maria Bamford, Hannibal Buress, Judy Gold, the Sklar Brothers, and Eddie Pepitone. Comedian and actor Marc Maron, who released his first three albums on Stand Up!, described Schlissel as "a guy who loves comedy, and is very attentive to the process of recording comedy," and, referencing the large number of noteworthy comics who were given important exposure in their early careers by the label, joked that "you've done everybody's first two records." WZON
WZON (620 Hertz, kHz) is an AM broadcasting, AM radio station broadcasting an oldies format, with one afternoon talk show. The station is licensed to Bangor, Maine, Bangor and serves Central Maine. Along with sister stations 100.3 WKIT and 103.1 WZLO, WZON is owned by The Zone Corporation, the broadcast company owned by authors Tabitha King and her husband, best-selling Horror fiction, horror writer Stephen King. WZON operates at 5,000 watts, using a non-directional transmitter by day and a directional pattern at night to protect other stations on 620 kHz. Negativland
Negativland is an American experimental music band which originated in the San Francisco Bay Area in the late 1970s. They took their name from a Neu! track, while their record label (Seeland Records) is named after another Neu! track. The core of the band consists of Mark Hosler, David Wills (aka "The Weatherman"), Peter Conheim and Jon Leidecker (aka "Wobbly"). Negativland has released a number of albums ranging from pure sound collage to more musical expositions. These have mostly been released on their own label, Seeland Records. In the late 1980s and early 1990s, they produced several recordings for SST Records, most notably ''Escape from Noise'', ''Helter Stupid'' and '' U2''. The United States National Recording Preservation Board selects recorded sounds for preservation in the Library of Congress' National Recording Registry. KBOO
KBOO is a non-profit organization, listener-funded FM Community radio station broadcasting from Portland, Oregon. The station's mission is to serve groups in its listening area who are underrepresented on other local radio stations and to provide access to the airwaves for people who have unconventional or controversial tastes and points of view. It broadcasts 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and has been on the air since 1968. KBOO is supported financially by donations from members and a small endowment.
