Drums and Gods is a 2001 German/Brazilian film directed by Georg Brintrup. Plot A Brazilian street boy, Antônio, wakes up early in the morning on the beach of Salvador (Bahia). At sunrise, he is overtaken by strange thoughts: The bible says that God created light even before the sun and the stars. Light, but not sunlight! Maybe the light is the light within our interior enlightenment. Nature's biggest catastrophe is when man began to think. However, before God created light, he said: “Let there be light!” So, before light there was the voice of God. A sound ... a big bang ... the sound of thunder ... rolling off a drum. Only this thunder had the power to create light. If it weren't for that sound from the depths, that primal noise, today man wouldn't be able to think. Georg Brintrup
Georg Brintrup (born 25 October 1950) is a German-Italian film director, screenwriter and producer, known for his non-narrative film essays on poetry and music as well as his biographical films. Life and career Georg Brintrup had already made several underground films between the end of the 1960s and the beginning of the 1970s before he started his studies in journalism, the history of art and the Romance languages at the University of Münster. Some of the films he made during this period have been shown at avant-garde theater productions in Münster. In 1973, he started his studies in film and communication sciences at the I.S.O.P. in Rome. Part of his thesis entitled "Literature in Films" (1975) was his short film ''My miracles'', seven poems by Else Lasker-Schüler, which was shown during the International Short Film Festival Oberhausen in 1978 in German. Colonial Symphony is a 1991 German/Brazilian film directed by Georg Brintrup. The film recounts a largely unknown phenomenon which started in the 18th century regarding Brazilian classical music. Nearly all Brazilian classical composers were mulattoes, who, if they could prove their talent in composing music, could gain their freedom from slavery. This film explores the boundaries between a music documentary and a fictional biography. Plot A box of documents dating back to the 18th century has been found in the archives of the Orquestra Ribeiro Bastos. At that time, Brazil was still a Portuguese colony. A young musicologist who was called to examine the documents (actor: Ivan Capua) travels to the town of São João del Rei, in the Brazilian province of Minas Gerais, where the orchestra is based. Arnaldo Antunes (, born Arnaldo Augusto Nora Antunes Filho, September 2, 1960) is a Brazilian musician, writer, and composer. He was a member of the rock band Titãs, which he co-founded in 1982 and left ten years later. After 1992, he embarked on a solo career. He has published poetry and had his first book published in 1983. He has worked with Marisa Monte, Tribalistas, and Carlinhos Brown.
