Drinkwater Point Road
Drinkwater Point Road is a prominent street in Yarmouth, Maine, United States. One of the first streets laid out in what was then coastal North Yarmouth, Province of Massachusetts Bay (when it was centered around the nearby Meetinghouse under the Ledge), it runs for about from Gilman Road in the north to Seaborne Drive in the south. Drinkwater Point faces Cousins Island, to which it is connected by the Ellis C. Snodgrass Memorial Bridge, and overlooks inner Casco Bay. Drinkwater Point Road and Drinkwater Point are named for Captain Theophilus Drinkwater, son of Allen and Hannah Drinkwater. His house, built in 1791 by his grandfather, Nicholas, stood at the southern end. Theophilus was married to Louisa Drinkwater. They had three children — Cornelia Amanda, Hannah Gray and Ferdinand. Theophilus Drinkwater
Theophilus Drinkwater (October 28, 1792 – December 15, 1872) was an American sea captain in the first half of the 19th century. Life and career Drinkwater was born on October 28, 1792, in North Yarmouth, Massachusetts (now in Maine), to Allen and Hannah Drinkwater. Drinkwater's house stood at the southern end of today's Drinkwater Point Road, for whom the street is named. The house was built in 1791 by his grandfather, Nicholas. Theophilus married Louisa Prince in 1822. They had three children — Cornelia Amanda, Hannah Gray and Ferdinand. Two months before Maine's admittance to the Union, Drinkwater became a founding member of the Chapel Religious Society in North Yarmouth. In 1835, Drinkwater and his father purchased the homestead farm of Jonathan Moulton in North Yarmouth. In 1853, Drinkwater was listed as a stockholder in the Atlantic and St. Lawrence Railroad. Yarmouth is a town in Cumberland County, Maine, United States, twelve miles north of the state's largest city, Portland. When originally settled in 1636, as North Yarmouth, it was part of Massachusetts, and remained as such for 213 years. Gilman Road is a prominent street in Yarmouth, Maine, United States. It runs for about from Lafayette Street ( State Route 88) in the northwest to the Ellis C. North Yarmouth, officially the Town of North Yarmouth, is a town in Cumberland County, Maine. The population was 4,072 at the 2020 United States Census. Cousins Island is an island in Casco Bay within the town of Yarmouth in Cumberland County, Maine, United States.
