Dragon's Back
The Dragon's Back () is a mountain ridge in southeastern Hong Kong Island, Hong Kong that passes through Shek O Peak. It lies within the Shek O Country Park. In 2019, the Dragon's Back Trail was selected by CNN as one of the world's 23 best trails. Dragon's Back is part of Stage 8 of the Hong Kong Trail. Big Wave Bay Beach
Big Wave Bay Beach is a gazetted beach next to Big Wave Bay, Shek O, Southern District, Hong Kong. The beach has barbecue pits and is managed by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department of the Hong Kong Government. The beach is 86 metres long and is rated as Grade 1 by the Environmental Protection Department for its water quality. This beach is popular among surfers. A mountain is an elevated portion of the Earth's crust, generally with steep sides that show significant exposed bedrock. Prehistoric Hong Kong
Prehistoric Hong Kong is the period between the arrival of the first humans in Hong Kong and the start of recorded Chinese history during the Han dynasty. The history of the southern region (which may possibly include Hong Kong) is reckoned to have been first recorded in 214 BC with Qin Shi Huang conquering the Baiyue and creating the Jiaozhou province. The prehistorical period can be divided into Stone Age and Bronze Age. Archaeology evidence suggests the earliest human settlement was in the Wong Tei Tung area dating back to 38,000 BC. Stone Age Palaeolithic Evidence of an Upper Paleolithic settlement in Hong Kong was found at Wong Tei Tung in Sham Chung beside the Three Fathoms Cove in Sai Kung Peninsula. Pottinger Peak
Pottinger Peak () is a mountain on the eastern side of Hong Kong Island. It is located south of Chai Wan and Siu Sai Wan and north of Big Wave Bay. Initially known as Ma Tong Peak, it was renamed Pottinger Peak after Henry Pottinger, the first Governor of Hong Kong. The peak is above sea level. Shek O Beach
Shek O Beach is a gazetted beach located facing Island Bay in Shek O, Southern District, Hong Kong. The beach has barbecue pits and is managed by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department of the Hong Kong Government. The beach is about 230 metres long and is rated as Grade 1 by the Environmental Protection Department for its water quality. History On 25 October 2014, a 60-year-old man was found lying on the shore after being drowned while swimming near the beach. The police and the ambulance had arrived at the scene and confirmed that the man had died. On 18 November 2018, a 12-year-old girl had drowned while swimming near the beach. She was rescued by a swimmer and was accompanied by her male relative and her friend to Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital for treatment. Southern District, Hong Kong
The Southern District is one of the 18 districts of Hong Kong. It is located in the southern part of Hong Kong Island. It had a population of 274,994 in 2016. Geography The Southern District faces the South China Sea at the south, and is backed by hills and reservoirs, designated as Country Parks, at the north. The eastern half of the district is semi-rural, with some of Hong Kong's most popular beaches. The western half of the district is partly residential and partly industrial.
