''How the Grinch Stole Christmas'' (also known as ''Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas'', released in the UK as ''The Grinch'') is a 2000 American Christmas fantasy comedy film directed by Ron Howard, who also produced with Brian Grazer, from a screenplay written by the writing team of Jeffrey Price and Peter S. Seaman. It is based on Dr. Seuss' 1957 children's book of the same name. It was the first Dr. Seuss book to be adapted into a full-length feature film (and the first of only two live-action Dr. Seuss films, followed by ''The Cat in the Hat'' in 2003), and the second adaptation of the book, following the 1966 animated TV special of the same name. Ronald William Howard (born March 1, 1954) is an American director, producer, screenwriter, and actor. He first came to prominence as a child actor, guest-starring in several television series, including an episode of ''The Twilight Zone''. The Academy Award for Best Makeup and Hairstyling is the Academy Award given to the best achievement in makeup and hairstyling for film.
