"Down to Zero" is a 1976 song by British singer-songwriter Joan Armatrading. It features pedal steel guitar by B. J. Cole and drums by Kenney Jones of the Faces. History The song first appeared on Armatrading's 1976 album ''Joan Armatrading'', which was produced and engineered by Glyn Johns and recorded at the independent Olympic Studios in Barnes, London. It was the first song to be recorded for the album. "Down to Zero" was released as a single, also in 1976, by A&M ''("Down to Zero/Like Fire" – AMS 7270)'', and despite following the success of the top ten single " Love and Affection" (which had been released in August 1976), it failed to chart. In his review of the album on AllMusic, Dave Connolly cites "Down to Zero" as "ne ofthe album's most memorable tracks". Joan Anita Barbara Armatrading, (, born 9 December 1950) is a Kittitian-English singer-songwriter and guitarist. A three-time Grammy Award nominee, Armatrading has also been nominated twice for BRIT Awards as Best Female Artist. She received an Ivor Novello Award for Outstanding Contemporary Song Collection in 1996. In a recording career spanning nearly 50 years, Armatrading has released 20 studio albums, as well as several live albums and compilations. Early life Joan Armatrading, the third of six children, was born in 1950 in the town of Basseterre in what was then the British colony Saint Christopher and Nevis. Jerry Donahue (born September 24, 1946, Manhattan, New York City) is an American guitarist and producer primarily known for his work in the British folk rock scene as a member of Fotheringay and Fairport Convention as well as being a member of the rock guitar trio The Hellecasters. Biography Donahue was born in New York, the son of big band saxophonist Sam Donahue and actress Patricia Donahue and grew up in Los Angeles. Encouraged by his parents, Donahue took classical guitar lessons as a child, but it was Gerry McGee (who later joined The Ventures) who made the biggest impression on him, when the 14-year-old Donahue witnessed him playing a behind-the-nut bend at a performance at the ''Sea Witch'', emulating Earl Scruggs' banjo technique. ''Starlight'' is the eighteenth studio album by British singer-songwriter Joan Armatrading, and was released in 2012 as a digital album on the Hypertension label, (HYP 12287) and then as a CD in 2013 on the 429 Records (FTN 17925) and Savoy labels. The album was recorded at Bumpkin Studios, Armatrading's own purpose-built studio. Background ''Starlight'' was recorded during 2011 and is the final album in a trilogy of albums by Armatrading each concerned with a specific musical genre. The first two albums, ''Into the Blues'' and ''This Charming Life'', focused on blues and rock music respectively, and ''Starlight'' was written as an "out and out jazz album". The idea of writing three albums concerned with specific genres grew out of Armatrading's 2003 album ''Lovers Speak''. Three tracks from the album ("Lovers Speak", "Love Bug" and "Crazy for You") were released by Telstar on 10 March 2003 as a sampler. Background ''Lovers Speak'' was the first studio album released by Armatrading in eight years, following the 1995 release of ''What's Inside''. At the time of this album's release she was no longer attached to a major record label – she had spent 18 years with A&M and had then released one album through RCA. ''The Old Grey Whistle Test'' (sometimes abbreviated to ''Whistle Test'' or ''OGWT'') is a British television music show. The show was devised by BBC producer Rowan Ayers, commissioned by David Attenborough and aired on BBC2 from 1971 to 1988. It took over the BBC2 late-night slot from '' Disco 2'', which ran between September 1970 and July 1971, while continuing to feature non-chart music. The Grugahalle is a multi-purpose indoor arena located at the edge of the Botanischer Garten Grugapark in Essen, Germany. Opened on 25 October 1958, its seating capacity is about 7,700 people and about 10,000 for unseated events. The building was heritage-listed in 2000. ''Steppin' Out'' is a live album by the British singer-songwriter Joan Armatrading. The title is taken from her song of the same name which was first released in 1975 on her second studio album ''Back to the Night''. A DVD with the same title, containing concerts recorded by '' WDR'' in 1979 and 1980, was released in 2004. Background The album was recorded live during the North American leg of her '' To the Limit'' tour and released in the UK in October 1979 by A&M (AMLH 64789). It was also released in Canada and Europe but not in the US. This is said to be because, although Armatrading was enjoying success in the States, it was felt she did not sell enough recordings there to justify a live album. Don Michael "Red" Young is an American keyboard, piano, synthesizer and organ player. Beginnings and early success He grew up in Fort Worth, Texas, United States. He began playing piano at age 3 and did his first classical recital at age 8. He toured with Clyde McCoy (Sugar Blues) in 1967, Air Force Band 1968–72 and 1974 joined Lloyd Price (Stagger Lee, Personality) for a brief tour returning to Ft Worth where he joined Warren and Bill Ham, Darryl Norris and formed the Ham Brothers Band.
