Doug Ellwood
Doug Ellwood is a New Zealand former rugby league footballer who represented New Zealand in the 1968 World Cup. Playing career Ellwood originally played for Ellerslie. During the Auckland Rugby League's "district era" he represented Eastern United, a combination that included the Ellerslie club. In 1967, while playing for City-Newton Dragons, City-Newton, Ellwood won both the Auckland Rugby League club trophies, Lipscombe Cup and Auckland Rugby League club trophies, Rothville Trophy, Auckland's sportsman of the year and player of the year awards. Ellwood represented Auckland rugby league team, Auckland. The Ellerslie Eagles are a rugby league club based in Ellerslie, New Zealand. The club was founded in 1912 and competes in Auckland Rugby League competitions. Its premier team competes in the Sharman cup. The club celebrated its centenary Queen's Birthday weekend, 2012. South Africa National Rugby League Team
The South Africa national rugby league team to date have competed at two Rugby League World Cups in 1995 and 2000. Rugby league was originally introduced to South Africa in the 1950s with the staging of several series tournaments within the country that saw fixtures between the English and the French however this concept failed to generate the needed interest and was not upheld. The South Africans did not see further international rugby league until the 1960s where the first national side undertook fixtures against the visiting British and a tour to Australia. From the 1960s onwards the international fixture list for the South Africans was minimal and it was not until the early 1990s when they began to play with some lasting regularity. City-Newton Dragons
The City Newton Dragons are a defunct New Zealand rugby league club that was based at Victoria Park, Auckland. The club was created in 1948 by a merger of two original clubs, the City Rovers and Newton Rangers. Both the Rovers and the Rangers participated in the inaugural Auckland Rugby League competition in 1910. In 2004, the club was absorbed by the Ponsonby Ponies, who play a match in the City Newton colours annually to keep the heritage of the club alive.
