''Double Trouble'' is a docu-drama directed by Lee Robinson about two Australian men intolerant of foreign migrants who find themselves transported to a foreign country. Unlike most movies from the Australian National Film Board it used professional actors, and gave Lee Robinson invaluable experience directing them prior to his first feature, ''The Phantom Stockman'' (1953). Lee Robinson (Australian Director)
Lee Robinson (22 February 1923 – 22 September 2003) was an Australian producer, director and screenwriter who was Australia's most prolific filmmaker of the 1950s. Biography Robinson was born in Petersham, New South Wales and left school aged 12. He worked at the ''Daily Telegraph'' has a copy boy, and wrote short stories prior to the war. He first entered film as a member of the Australian Army History Unit where he filmed Australian troops in Rabaul and East Timor. After the war he was going to work for the ABC as a scriptwriter when he received an offer to join the Australian Information Service film unit (later Film Australia) where he directed a film on Albert Namatjira called ''Namatjira the Painter'' (1946). Robinson made several films in the Northern Territory such as ''Outback Patrol'', '' The Pearlers'' and ''Crocodile Hunters'' as well as a short film with actors in a studio called '' Double Trouble'' (1951). Inman Hunter (25 August 1914 – July 1986) was a British film editor who worked in both Australia and England from 1938 to 1969. Career His first film editing project was for Reginald Denham's 1938 crime thriller '' Queen of Crime''. He then went to Australia in 1945 to work on the 1946 film '' The Overlanders''. He returned to Australia in 1946 on a special Halifax bomber, a trip that achieved much publicity at the time, and worked at Film Australia. He then worked in Australian film production for several years, also providing the original story for the 1959 film ''The Siege of Pinchgut''. Film Australia was a company established by the Government of Australia to produce films about Australia in 1973. Its predecessors were the Cinema and Photographic Branch (1913–38), the Australian National Film Board (1939–1955, under different departments), and the Commonwealth Film Unit (1956–72). Film Australia became Film Australia Limited in 1988 and was consolidated into Screen Australia in 2008. Administration of the Film Australia Collection was transferred from Screen Australia to the National Film and Sound Archive of Australia on 1 July 2011. ''The Phantom Stockman'' is a 1953 Australian western film written and directed by Lee Robinson and starring Chips Rafferty, Victoria Shaw, Max Osbiston and Guy Doleman. It was the first of several movies produced by Lee Robinson in association with Chips Rafferty in the 1950s. Plot summary Kim Marsden inherits a cattle station near Alice Springs after the death of her father. Kim becomes convinced her father was murdered. The National Film and Sound Archive of Australia (NFSA), known as ScreenSound Australia from 1999 to 2004, is Australia's audiovisual archive, responsible for developing, preserving, maintaining, promoting and providing access to a national collection of film, television, sound, radio, video games, new media, and related documents and artefacts.
