In Greek mythology, Dorus ( grc, Δῶρος probably derived from ''doron'' "gift") was the Eponym, eponymous founder of the Dorians. Tom Manders (Dutch Artist)
Antoon (Tom) Manders was a Dutch people, Dutch artist, comedian and cabaret, cabaret performer. In later role, he became better known as Dorus. Biography Although his birth was officially recorded as having occurred on 24 October, he was actually born on the 23rd. His father had him registered one day later because, for a child born on Sunday, he would not get a day off work. Already at a young age, his talent for drawing became apparent. He attended the Royal Academy of Art (The Hague), Royal Academy of Art in The Hague, Netherlands for 3 years and was active, among other things, as an advertisement painter and designer of posters. Later he also designed decors for theatre and cabaret, regularly for Lou Bandy, Wim Kan and theatre Carré Theatre, Carré in Amsterdam. During World War II, Manders had to work in Germany but after half a year, he fled from his job as a painter. Dorus Nijland
Dorotheus Magdalenus "Dorus" Nijland (26 February 1880 – 13 December 1968) was a Dutch track and road racing cyclist. Nijland was a sprinter. He was an amateur cyclist and later Nijland became a professional cyclist (1913–1915) and continued cycling as a master. His total career was between 1905 and 1935. He won over a hundred prizes, and competed at the 1908 Summer Olympics. Career Nijland competed mainly on the defunct track "Zeeburgerbaan" in Amsterdam. He finished eleven times 2nd at the Dutch National Track Championships. In the early years of his career his finished behind Jan Tulleken from Haarlem. After Tulleken became a professional cyclist, he finished second behind Bosch van Drakestein. As second places became kind of an obsession during his career, he got the nickname “pechkampioen” (translated: bad luck champion). Dorus Rijkers
Theodorus "Dorus" Rijkers (27 January 1847 – 19 April 1928) was a famous Dutch lifeboat captain and folk hero, most famous for his sea rescues of 487 shipwrecked victims over a total of 38 rescue operations, and at least 25 before joining the lifeboat-service. 'Opa' Dorus Dorus received his nickname Grandpa ( nl, Opa) while still a young man: he had married Neeltje Huisman, a fisherman's widow who already had six children. Shortly after the marriage, the oldest of Neeltje's daughters had a child of her own, and so at only 23 years old Dorus became known as "Opa" in Den Helder where he lived. Although the nickname began as a joke, Dorus soon started acting and looking like a grandpa, and from that time on he became primarily known by his nickname. De Vries began his professional career in his native the Netherlands with Telstar (football club), Telstar, before spending three seasons with ADO Den Haag. Louis Dorus (born Vincent Joseph van Steenkiste; 1 March 1812 – 9 June 1896) was a 19th-century French classical flautist. Vincent-Joseph van Steenkiste, his real name, was instrumental in the adoption of the modern concert flute. He is the younger brother of Julie Dorus-Gras, the father of the singer and pianist Juliette Vansteenkiste called Dorus, known after her marriage as Rabaud-Dorus, and Henri Rabaud's grandfather.
