Dorothy Marion Campbell
Dorothy Marion Campbell (11 January 1911 in Hedon, Yorkshire – 3 October 2005 in East Riding of Yorkshire) was an English potter. Early in 1954 Marion replied to Hornsea Pottery’s advertisement in the ''Hull Daily Mail'' for ‘a modeller in clay’ and was invited to work for the Rawson brothers. She worked from home, and took her completed models to Hornsea Pottery on the bus. Her designs for Hornsea, especially the African and Arctic figures, stylised vases, dogs, giraffes and cats are highly prized by collectors. Her 1956 Arctic fox and Weasel vase can be found in the Ceramics Galleries of the Victoria and Albert Museum. Hedon
Hedon is a town and civil parish in Holderness in the East Riding of Yorkshire, England. It is situated approximately east of Hull city centre. It lies to the north of the A1033 road at the crossroads of the B1240 and B1362 roads. It is particularly noted for the parish church of St. Augustine, known as the 'King of Holderness', which is a Grade I listed building. In 1991, the town had a population of 6,066, which had risen to 6,332 by the time of the 2001 UK census. By the 2011 UK census, Hedon parish had a population of 7,100, History Hedon is not mentioned in the ''Domesday Book'' which leads to the belief that it was a new town created by the Normans as a port. Hedon was at its most prosperous in the 12th and 13th centuries and at one time was the 11th largest port in England. Hornsea Pottery
Hornsea Pottery was a business located in the coastal town of Hornsea in the East Riding of Yorkshire, England. They specialized in tableware with elegant contemporary designs. The pottery was founded in 1949, in a small terraced house, by brothers Colin and Desmond Rawson with funding from local business man, Philip Clappison. The factory's earliest pieces were mostly designed by Colin Rawson. The products sold well and the pottery moved to larger premises and took on its first employee in 1950. Expansion of the business in the 1950s brought moves to larger sites in Hornsea. A second factory in Lancaster opened in 1974. In 1984, the company floundered, and was bought out. Despite its difficulties, the factory continued to produce tableware and ornaments until April 2000 when it went into receivership.
