Donie O'Donovan
Daniel Joseph O'Donovan (31 January 1926 – 28 May 1999) was an Irish Gaelic football manager and player. He played football with his local club St. Nicholas' and was a member of the Cork senior inter-county team from 1948 until 1955. O'Donovan managed Cork to the All-Ireland title in 1973. Biography Born Daniel Joseph O'Donovan at 150 Old Youghal Road, Dillon's Cross, Cork into a family with strong sporting and Irish republican background. He was a nephew of Cork IRA officer Dan "Sandow" O'Donovan. He followed in the footsteps of his father and grandfather and became a carpenter by trade. He married Cork camogie player Sheila Cahill in the 1950s and they had three sons. The eldest, Diarmuid O'Donovan is Assistant CEO of the ''Evening Echo'' and a sports columnist with that newspaper. Glen Rovers GAA
Glen Rovers is a Cork (city), Cork-based Gaelic Athletic Association club based in Blackpool, Cork, Ireland. The club was founded in 1916 and is primarily concerned with the game of hurling. They were Cork senior hurling champions in 2015 and 2016, having won their first title in 26 years in 2015. They retained the championship in 2016, when they beat Erin's Own in the final. Only Blackrock have won more Cork senior hurling championships. Hurling Colours In the early days of the club, its colours were green, white and gold. The Easter Rising and the execution of the leaders took place in the same year the Glen was founded. These events left such an impression on the minds of the Irish public that it was decided to add a black band to the jersey to honour the recently deceased patriots. The Cork Premier Senior Hurling Championship (known for sponsorship reasons as the Co-Op Superstores Cork Premier Senior Hurling Championship and abbreviated to the Cork PSHC) is an annual club hurling competition organised by the Cork County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association and contested by the top-ranking senior clubs and amalgamated teams in the county of Cork in Ireland, deciding the competition winners through a group and knockout format. It is the most prestigious competition in Cork hurling. The 1989 Cork Senior Hurling Championship was the 101st staging of the Cork Senior Hurling Championship since its establishment by the Cork County Board in 1887. The draw for the opening fixtures took place on 18 December 1988. The championship began on 29 April 1989 and ended on 1 October 1989. St. Finbarr's entered the championship as the defending champions, however, they were beaten by Sarsfields in a semi-final replay. On 1 October 1989, Glen Rovers won the championship following a 4–15 to 3–13 defeat of Sarsfields in the final. Railway Cup
The GAA Interprovincial Championship ( ga, An Corn Idir-Chúigeach) or Railway Cup (''Corn an Iarnróid'') is the name of two annual Gaelic football and hurling competitions held between the provinces of Ireland. The Connacht, Leinster, Munster and Ulster GAA teams are composed of the best players from the counties in each province. The games are organised by the Gaelic Athletic Association. The Railway Cup was a revival of the Railway Shield which ran from 1905 to 1907 (football) and from 1905 to 1908 (hurling). The first Railway Cup competitions (the name is due to the donation of the trophy by Irish Rail) were held in 1927, with Munster winning the first football title and Leinster winning the first hurling title. Munster Senior Football Championship
The Munster Senior Football Championship, known simply as the Munster Championship and shortened to Munster SFC, is an annual inter-county Gaelic football competition organised by the Munster Council of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA). It is the highest inter-county Gaelic football competition in the province of Munster, and has been contested every year, bar one, since the 1888 championship. The final, currently held on the fourth Saturday in June, serves as the culmination of a series of games played during May and June, and the results determine which team receives the Munster Cup.
