Don Stewart (Canadian Politician)
Donald Stewart (born 1946) is a business owner and politician in Newfoundland. He represented Fortune-Hermitage in the Newfoundland House of Assembly from 1979 to 1985. Stewart was born in Harbour Breton Harbour Breton is a small fishing community on the Connaigre Peninsula in Fortune Bay, on the south coast of the island of Newfoundland in Canada. Stewart operated his own business and was also co-owner of a motel. He was chairman for ''The Coaster'' and ''The Foghorn'' newspapers. Stewart was a member of the town council for Harbour Breton, also serving as deputy mayor and later as mayor. Stewart was elected to the Newfoundland assembly in 1979 and was reelected in 1982. Fortune Bay—Cape La Hune is a provincial electoral district for the House of Assembly of Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. When created in 1975 it was called Fortune-Hermitage. As of 2011, there are 6,053 eligible voters living within the district. The district covers a larger section of Newfoundland's south coast. The district includes territory east of Burgeo, and stretches to the end of Fortune Bay near the beginning of the Burin Peninsula. The district covers a number of communities including: Harbour Breton, Seal Cove, and Hermitage-Sandyville in Connaigre; St. Albans, Milltown-Head of Bay d'Espoir, Morrisville, St. Joseph's Cove, and St. Veronica's in Bay d'Espoir; along with Belleoram, Pool's Cove, and St. Jacques-Coomb's Cove ( St. Jacques, English Harbour West, Mose Ambrose, Boxey, Coomb's Cove, and Wreck Cove) in Fortune Bay. Newfoundland House Of Assembly
The Newfoundland and Labrador House of Assembly is the unicameral deliberative assembly of the General Assembly of Newfoundland and Labrador of the province of Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. It meets in the Confederation Building in St. John's. Bills passed by the assembly are given royal assent by the King of Canada in Right of Newfoundland and Labrador, represented by the Lieutenant Governor of Newfoundland and Labrador. The governing party sits on the left side of the speaker of the House of Assembly as opposed to the traditional right side of the speaker. This tradition dates back to the 1850s as the heaters in the Colonial Building were located on the left side. Thus, the government chose to sit near the heat, and leave the opposition sitting in the cold. Harbour Breton
Harbour Breton is a small fishing community on the Connaigre Peninsula in Fortune Bay, on the south coast of the island of Newfoundland in Canada. It is the largest center on the Connaigre Peninsula and was long considered the unofficial capital of Fortune Bay. During the 1960s many communities were resettled into Harbour Breton. Harbour Breton is the only administrative centre in Fortune Bay and is located approximately south of Grand Falls-Windsor. History Harbour Breton is known for its rich fishing history. But the first major company to take up post here was Newman & Co. Based in England and famous for its port wine, this company happened upon the value of the town's marine climate in its wine aging process.
