Don Seccombe (television Presenter)
Donald Alexander Leslie Seccombe (22 February 1931 - 30 December 1993) was an Australian Logie Award-winning television presenter. He is best known for his association with QTQ-9 in Brisbane where he worked from 1962 to 1985. During this time, Seccombe anchored ''Nine News'', hosted the game show ''I've Got a Secret'' and presented documentaries. When he was paired with Melody Iliffe on ''Nine News'' in the 1960's, it's believed they formed the first male/female newsreading duo in Australia, which is still seen on many news bulletins throughout Australia. Seccombe is often remembered for his coverage of the 1974 Brisbane flood. In one piece to camera at a flood damaged home, Seccombe was left on the verge of tears as he surveyed a private library of books which were destroyed by floodwaters. The Nine Network (stylised 9Network, commonly known as Channel Nine or simply Nine) is an Australian commercial free-to-air television network. QTQ-9
QTQ is an Australian television station, licensed to, and serving Brisbane, Queensland. It is owned by the Nine Entertainment Co., and is part of the Nine Network. It broadcasts on VHF Channel 8 ( digital). QTQ began broadcasting on 16 August 1959 as the first commercial television station in Queensland. QTQ-9 is the home of the NRL coverage. News QTQ-9's nightly news program is ''Nine News Queensland'', presented on weeknights by Andrew Lofthouse and Melissa Downes, with Wally Lewis presenting sport, and Garry Youngberry presenting the weather. ''Nine News'' (stylised ''9News'') is the national news service of the Nine Network in Australia. Its flagship program is the hour-long 6:00 pm state bulletin, produced by Nine's owned-and-operated stations in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide, Perth and Darwin. National bulletins also air on weekday mornings, weekend afternoons and most nights of the week after 10:30pm. The Logie Awards (officially the TV Week Logie Awards; colloquially known as The Logies) is an annual gathering to celebrate Australian television, sponsored and organised by the magazine ''TV Week''. The first ceremony was held in 1959 as the TV Week Awards. Awards are presented in twenty categories, representing both public and industry voted prizes. The Gold Logie is the most prestigious award and the industry's highest honour; it's awarded to the ''Most Popular Personality on Australian Television'' for the previous year. Melody Iliffe
Melody Joy Iliffe (née Welsh, 10 April 1938 - 21 September 2017) was an Australian Logie Award-winning news presenter. Career Iliffe is best remembered for becoming the first woman to co-anchor a prime time news bulletin on Australian television after she was chosen to read the 6pm news alongside Don Seccombe on QTQ-9 in Brisbane in 1964. Welsh had previously been a production assistant on the station's children's program ''The Channel Niners'' hosted by "Captain" Jim Iliffe. She married Jim Iliffe in 1964. They had three children, including David who is now a media veteran himself and a long serving breakfast presenter on ABC Southern Queensland in Toowoomba. Although she kept a low profile after her marriage, Melody Iliffe regularly appeared in television commercials for Brisbane-based electrical good retailer Chandlers throughout the 1980's. 1974 Brisbane Flood
In January 1974 a flood occurred in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia after three weeks of continual rain. The Brisbane River, which runs through the heart of the city, broke its banks and flooded the surrounding areas. The cyclone that produced the flood also flooded surrounding cities: Ipswich, Beenleigh, and the Gold Coast. In total, there were 16 fatalities, 300 people injured, 8,000 homes destroyed and an estimated A$980 million in damages. In television and film, a piece to camera (PTC) is when a television presenter or a character speaks directly to the viewing audience through the camera. Details It is most common when a news or television show presenter is reporting or explaining items to the viewing audience. Frank Warrick
Francis Michael Warrick (1944 – 11 May 2021) was an Australian journalist and newsreader and TV game show host. Biography Warrick began his career in radio as a disc jockey in Toowoomba in 1963 with AM radio station 4GR, and in 1965 he was the first voice heard on the new Gold Coast AM radio station 4GG. Warrick joined Seven Brisbane as a newsreader in 1976 and served in the position until his retirement in 2001, including a role as co-presenter of 13 years opposite Kay McGrath. In 1991, prison escapee Harold John McSweeney surrendered to Warrick and a television helicopter crew on the Queensland Darling Downs, purportedly to avoid being shot by the Queensland Police.
