Don Parish (rugby League)
Don Parish is an Australian former professional rugby league footballer who played in the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s, and coached in the 1970s. An Australia international and New South Wales state representative goal-kicking or three-quarter back, he played club football in Sydney's NSWRFL Premiership for the Western Suburbs club, as well as elsewhere in New South Wales. Parish later coached Wests and Penrith. Playing career Hailing from the country New South Wales town of Dubbo, Parish played for the Macquarie club, becoming their first international when he was selected to go on the 1959/60 Kangaroo tour. In 1959 Parish scored a try and kicked three goals in the New South Wales team's loss to Queensland that attracted 35,261 spectators, smashing Brisbane's previous record for an interstate match of 22,817. Test Match (rugby League)
A test match in rugby league football is a representative match between teams representing members of the Rugby League International Federation. The definition of a test match differs from that of an international match. An international match can be played "between senior/open age or restricted age-level teams from different countries". Recognition Members of the international governing body can make their own recognition of a match as having test status. It is possible for a match to be considered a test by one side but not the other. Matches may also be given test status retrospectively by their governing bodies. A notable instance of a different in opinions of the status of past matches is a consequence of the Super League war. Tommy Raudonikis
Thomas Walter Raudonikis (13 April 1950 – 7 April 2021) was an Australian rugby league footballer and coach. He played 40 International games and World Cup games as Australia representative and captained his country in two matches of the 1973 Kangaroo tour. Background Raudonikis was born in Bathurst, New South Wales, the son of a Lithuanian immigrant father and a Swiss immigrant mother. He grew up in Cowra. He said, "Mum and Dad migrated over here in 1950. Mum was pregnant with me on the boat, and I was born at the migrant camp." He joined the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) as an engineering apprentice in 1967 and spent three years under training at RAAF Base Wagga. Club playing career Raudonikis played 201 games for the Western Suburbs Magpies between 1969 and 1979. Raudonikis quickly established himself of one of the Leagues top players when in 1972 he won the Rothmans Medal, as judged by the NSWRL referees as the best and fairest player in the competition. Barry Harris (rugby League)
Barry Harris (1938-2006) was an Australian rugby league footballer and coach who played for Newtown, South Sydney and the Penrith Panthers. Harris was a foundation player for Penrith and played in the club's first season. Playing career Harris was a Newtown junior and made his first grade debut for the club in 1957. In 1959, Newtown qualified for the finals and Harris played in the starting side against Manly which ended in a 17–0 defeat. In the same year, Harris was also selected to play for New South Wales against Queensland in the interstate series. Harris left Newtown at the end of 1960 and moved out to Dubbo playing in the local country competition. While playing out at Dubbo, Harris was selected to play for NSW Country on 2 occasions and was chosen to represent New South Wales. In 1963, Harris moved back to Sydney and joined Souths. Len Stacker
Len Stacker is an Australian rugby league footballer who played in the 1960s. He played for Parramatta in the New South Wales Rugby League (NSWRL) competition. He also coached the Penrith Panthers and Western Suburbs in the late 1970s and early 1980s. Playing career Stacker made his first grade debut for Parramatta in 1966. Parramatta finished 6th on the table and missed out on the finals but Stacker finished as the club's top point scorer with 59 points. In 1967, Parramatta finished in 9th place and Stacker ended the year as the club's highest point scorer for the second year in a row with 89 points. Stacker then joined Northern Suburbs (known now as Norths Devils) in the Brisbane rugby league competition. Stacker won the 1969 premiership with Norths. 1978 NSWRFL Season
The 1978 NSWRFL season was the 71st season of the NSWRFL Premiership, Sydney's professional rugby league football competition, and Australia's first. Twelve clubs, including six of 1908's foundation teams and another six from around Sydney competed for the J.J. Giltinan Shield and WD & HO Wills Cup during the season, which culminated in a grand final between the Manly-Warringah and Cronulla-Sutherland clubs that was drawn and had to be re-played. The 1971 New South Wales Rugby Football League premiership was the sixty-fourth season of Sydney's professional rugby league football competition, Australia's first. Twelve teams, including six foundation clubs and another six admitted since 1908, competed for the J. J. Giltinan Shield during the season, which culminated in a Grand Final match for the W.D. & H.O. Wills between the South Sydney and St. George clubs. Season summary The season saw the number of tackles in a set increased from four to six. In addition, the number of points awarded for a field goal was reduced from two to one. St George Dragons
The St. George Dragons is an Australian rugby league football club from St George District in Sydney, New South Wales that played in the top level New South Wales competition and Australian Rugby League competitions from the 1921 until the 1997 ARL season, as well as the unified 1998 National Rugby League season. On 23 September 1998, the club formed a joint venture with the Illawarra Steelers, creating the St. George Illawarra Dragons team which competed in the 1999 NRL season and continues to compete in the league today.
